Weapon Swapping and Quick Chat

First Idea - Would you want a feature where you could trade weapons with another player like you would with a marine AI or maybe give them ammo if you had it?

Second - Would you want the ability to make short preset phrases or emoji pop over your head using a button and a selection wheel? I’ve seen it done in a few games and thought it was clever. Stuff like “Follow Me”, “Enemies Near”, question/exclamation marks, etc.

Just two ideas I thought I’d bring up.

I can see the arguments being made for having mics but some people just don’t really come across well on mic. Some people are too quiet, their voice is too deep, they speak a different language, they want to save their batteries, etc.
And I feel that sometimes the best way to get a point across is short and sweet.
When it comes to spam I imagine they’d limit it to a certain amount of times within 10 seconds. They made it so you can’t constantly have the horn on in vehicles so I imagine that they can limit text bubbles easily.

Like you said, they’re not desperately needed, and crouching rapidly at someone has been an accepted form of greeting since the olden days

No. I’ve never seen a non-RPG use any type of gesture or emotive chat to any degree of usefulness (i.e. beyond being a gimmick, like in Destiny).

I always thought using the D-Pad to call out tactical decisions would be a somewhat useful way to communicate with your teammates. Especially for those of us who don’t like mics. For example:

Up: Rally to me
Down: I’m in position
Left: Do not approach
Right: Danger, I’m looking down the barrel of a Scorpion.

Or something.

It’s not that much different from seeing your teammates engage an enemy by their marking turning yellow, or die with a red X.

It’s also not that much of a benefit… More me trying to figure out how to make use of unused buttons

As for the swap, it’d have some limited usefulness… probably not enough to warrant the development.

  1. I would love this. Actually, it’s something I’ve been asking for since at least Halo Reach. It’s always a pain when I find a weapon I don’t need, but maybe a buddy needs. It’s would so much easier to pick it up and bring it to him rather than stand on it while he makes his way, and hope it doesn’t despawn (or use the trick where you constantly drop/pickup weapons to bring them to a certain location).

  2. I don’t know about emoticons, but Gears 3 had a handy feature where you could point out enemies/weapons to teammates. That would certainly be useful in Halo. Spot a sniper camping? Point him out for other teammates to find.

Agree.

But the weapon-swap thing would be awesome. I’m not great with a sniper, but I do like to use them. And I’m not horrible compared to most players my level. But sometimes I grab one, and then somebody who is good with it groans that it’s gone. To give it to him, we’ve got to go all the way back to the drop point, pray my Magnum hasn’t despawned yet, and do the drop/pick up swap.

Or sometimes I grab one simply to prevent the other team from getting it, and there’s no real way to safely give it to the one guy on my team who’s shown proficiency with it during the previous part of the match.

For me, anyway, I’d have regular use of the weapon swapping capability.
