Weapon skins and effects. My idea.

First before I go forward with this I will say this. To make it clear. So that nobody has the wrong idea of this

1-These are unlockables. Not DLC.

2-Yet DLC packages in the future would not be a bad idea.

3-Weapon skins/effects do not change guns in any way other then looks.

4-Some skins will be funny, and have humor in mind.

5-However some skins will be “banned” from game modes. To keep it from being too insane. (i.e some will be for Customs or community playlist only)

6-The only things that will change: Weapon looks (skins). Sounds. Some effect changes.

7-Wont change: Damage, Range, Accuracy, Reload speed, etc.

To the point

I think it would be awesome if as you rank up in Halo 4 you can unlock new skins and effects for your guns. A good example is the Gravity Hammer and Golf Club, both pretty much the same, but with a skin change. Effects can vary from small effects to really cool ones. But I’ll get into detail in a bit.

Skins

Weapon Skins don’t change the gun. However being able to hold a Classic Battle Rifle or perhaps a ODST Pistol would be fun, and worth ranking up to. They pretty much let players to see your new guns, you to see it, and for them to be picked up. Allowing variety without necessarily risking balance destruction.

Examples: Battle Rifle: Halo 4 BR, Halo 2/3 BR, Halo Reach DMR (burst fire still remember)
Pistol: Halo 4 pistol, Halo:CE Magnum, ODST Pistol

Some funny ones may include a Rocket Launcher skin that looks like a cannon (i.e cannon ball)

What of Vehicles. For forge mode. Yes. However this goes more with Effects, not skins

Effects

Effects as I say can range form simple colors, or advanced effects. They again don’t change guns. And like Skins they are unlocked but a dropped gun with “X” effect can be picked up by anyone.

Some examples and tiers are as such

First Tier: Colors: Black, Silver, Grey. (Does not turn gun entirely “X” color. Instead gives it more of a tint.

Second Tier Colors2: Red, Blue, Purple, Pink, Green, Etc (Same as above. a RED Battle Rifle does not turn into a Red box, It has red tint, obvi)

Third Tier Colord3: Rusty, Chrome, Aqua

Fourth Tier Effects: Lighting, Fire, Color Changing

Last Tier: Fire/Electric Mix, Mirror, Wire Frame, Block.

Other little things. Or things to know

1-As I said does not effect weapons as far as gameplay

2-If a high level player with a Classic Halo 2 Battle Rifle with Wire Frame effect on drops his gun, ANYONE, of ANY RANK can pick it up

3-Vehicles will have effects in Forge. Which can be used in Custom Games. These effects are similar to the weapon effects. However Vehicles have some extra effects. SNOW,JUNGLE, ALL COLORS and Spec Ops.

4-This allows for high player customization without really changing gameplay

5-Allows for high weapon variety without messing up balance. A single GUN could have over 1000+ possible skin and color combos. If the game had only 10 guns we are talking about a few million combo possibilities

6-I know you’ll say CALL OF DOOTY. Well ok? So? Weapon Skins existed way before COD and color effects are not owned by COD. No idea really is. It may be similar, but not the same. It’s an idea used in old games (i.e- Halo:PC, and Counter Strike)

I’d rather not have the design team mess about with adding pointless and sometimes distracting colors to the game if they don’t have the time to waste on them.

Also sound changes is a massive no. Recognizing the sounds of each gun can be essential to how you take on someone in a fight on Halo. Not having a visual confirmation of what they have but having the ability to hear what they are shooting you with can be the difference between life and death.

If they can “waste” time on spartan Model customaztion it would not no time to do weapons.

It doesn’t take that much work to do so. Remember it’s only cosmetic.

Also sounds I never really got into.

And hey nobody is forcing you to add effects on a gun. And if you think a weapon being Chrome is distracting in Halo then you must not play much Halo, Where bodies fly through the air, vehicles explode everywhere and you have things happening all around you. A funny looking weapon should not distract you.

And also have some FUN. Halo would be nothing without it’s fun factor. Imagine Halo without the colors, details, the “stupid but fun” custom games, Or the amazingly original custom games. Halo is Halo because it has the ability to be FUN. Something a lot of games now don’t really have.

I’d rather have Halo 4 have rainbow guns and insane weapon skins as an OPTION to add more fun then having one weapon skin in an era of Gaming where nearly every other game allows for it. It’s not bad to follow others if others are fun.

Let Halo 4 be Halo 4. And let it be Halo. A game that is FUN, That you can laugh at while playing, and have a good time. Something to talk about, brag about and enjoy.

SLAM

No need for the wall there by the way. I said if they don’t have the time, they shouldn’t bother. If they do have the time and they like the idea then they can do whatever they want.

As you said, I don’t have to use them. Although I am confused at how having a BR with a different color makes the game more fun. You’ve confused me there. Also I’m confused as to why you’re comparing the “fun” of a colored weapon to something like JENGA or Mongoose Racing which actually offers an entertainment factor.

If you had taken the ‘it looks cool’ route, you might have won me over.

Another edit: I am pretty confused as to why you talked about following others when I made no mention of it being an idea that could have been copied from another game. I honestly do not care if something came from elsewhere, as long as it is a good feature that works with the game. Like Theater on Call of Duty for example.

It’s like you’re replying to what you EXPECTED someone to post, and not to what I actually posted.

Well customability is always fun or just good in general. It’s not fun like Rocket Race or Zombies but more fun to be able to say “Hey yea I got this cool gun”.

Plus if you really like the Halo 2 Battle Rifle lets say you could use it pretty much.

It’s the same thing as the armor custom ability. The same thing you are saying could be said about Halo 3’s or Reach’s armor sysytem. As much as buying armor is pretty lame to me, general simple unlocking is not.

Also the COD thing is because in this place if you mention Call of Duty in any simple way somebody is going to hate the idea regardless.
