When halo 4 featured the first weapon skins, I was ecstatic. Then halo 5 took it to a whole new level with team and HCS skins. I honestly thought about this idea extensively because I’m an artist IRL I want to be able to add some of my own personality to my favorite weapons of halo. There is a similar feature on COD BO3 (this is not a cod post, just using it as an example) that employs these assets. How cool would it be to plaster your GT on a AR or BR? Or even your own team?
This idea offers some attitude and even pride to the players of halo. Recently I made an old Final Boss gen 1 BR skin because I felt that I wanted to make a cool skin of my own design. And for even a cooler touch they should add details like how DOOM 2016 did with wear and tear, dirt, or even make the guns look new and sqeaky clean. This is just an idea though. But a cool one at best.
343 Industries has been a development company very interested in community works and proud of their fans (and they should be!) so putting in a Skin Customizer is an excellent idea. I believe that GrimBrother One mentioned that he wants this as well on his Social Stream last week and he knows a lot about Halo Infinite that he cannot wait to tell us about!
That’s incredible, Imma need to sub to him because I’m really pumped to see infinite. The wear and tear, along with dirt or the clean design isn’t a must but I think it’d be nice if it were implemented.

Well, the 343 Social Stream is every Wednesday from 1:30 - 3:00 pm PT (4:30 - 600 PM ET if you live in my timezone) on Mixer.

I’m looking at this from both an artist and comp player perspective. As an artist I love to put my content out and show off. Cosplaying is pretty good too, cuz I notice champ armor and weapons here and there. But I think when you put out stuff in video games it adds to the competitive feel, the glory from winning some games with those custom skins and team mates. If feels like you work towards something. In particular your team or individual rep.

Oh yeah man. It adds onto the idea of being battle hardened in halo multi. Would be super cool to see that.
Maybe the option to add your emblem or highlights to it would be nice but I wouldn’t want to trade the developer made skins in for a custom system unless it’s full of options
i never understood the appeal of weapon skins or even skins overall. but i guess as long as they don’t interfere with gameplay they are fine. only problem i can see, if it’s handled like in CS:GO with skins and a slot machine to get most of them or any other microtransaction system behind it.

Yeah man for sure. The slot machine idea I disagree with. Just brings back bad memories about the req system being a gaming version of gambling. I keep up with The Act Man on YT and his vids are always really good at seeing the bad. Look at cod ww2 and the rng system and the Star Wars battle front from a few years back. I can understand buying some new tools to use on community made skins but a virtual in game gambling system is freaking stupid.

Yeah, I cant see that being accepted well by the community. However I think with all the req back lash 343 may be a little more careful with how they handle microtransactions and this kinda system would probably be the last thing they try.
As for why weapon skins appeal to people, same reason people customize armor and emblems. We just like being in control of our look.

Your right. I hate spending money, especially on new features and cosmetic items. The req system was just a unwanted chore. It’s very inexcusable in my opinion for a way to unlock items. Honestly a standard unlock system for emblems or tools to put on your custom guns would be a better alternative.

i meant a slot machine system would be a problem. i mentioned CS:GO, but of course it applys to h5s req/lootbox system as well (and so many other games to unfortunatly). i just hate these systems. people need to stop supporting these.

i kind of understand the appeal with customization and i have nothing against it, as long as it’s in the right amount. i wouldn’t want funny looking skins in a serious game (but the only real serious game i can think of is spec ops: the line).
i only meant to say, that i never realy cared about it and i don’t understand it being such a big thing because i never care how i or my weapon look in a video game. but i wouldn’t want to take it away for people who like them, bc they aren’t bothering me and usually don’t influence gameplay.

Eh, more or less. Depends on types of customization. Halo Reach did it almost perfectly, with you being able to mix and match different pieces of armor, and I would LOVE the idea of custom weapon skins. What I DON’T want is a bunch of random armors with each one having five different variations. That was ridiculous.
