Weapon sandbox

What size and variety of a weapon sanbox would you like to see in Halo 4?

I would like to see a large weapons sandbox with weapons that fit into different roles instead of multiple weapons that fit into one role. None the less, I would like to see a wide variety of weapons (in Campaign, FF, cutsoms and Forge at least).

As long as they’re balanced I don’t care. Reach tried to shove in too many guns that served the same purpose or none at all.

I would like to see some half decent alien weapons

The covenant weapons were actually really good in Halo CEA and I would like that to return also The Assault rifle needs to be better meaning it has to have a little better range and more damage

I strongly agree and the Assualt rifle became almost like the Halo 3 magnum, where most players would discard it for something better.

Completely true.

I honestly would rather see some new Forerunner Tech or something like shown in Halo: Legends.

I don’t understand why people have a problem with multiple weapons serving the same function. Firstly, when you say “the same function”, what you really mean is “overlapping functions”, which creates nuances in the sandbox that can best be exploited by intelligent players. Secondly, even if there is some redundancy in the sandbox, what do you lose?

Well in some cases you don’t lose anything, in other cases you get a useless weapon. For example the plasma repeater in Reach. And diversity in weapon ‘functions’ allows for more diverse and less repetitive encounters in capmaign. As for multiplayer I don’t really care as long as I have a presicion weapon.

But we’re not talking about losing a particular niche (e.g. long-range explosives, short-range ballistic, etc.) at the expense of overlapping weapons. All the niches are established, and then more weapons would be added. And if there’s a weapon that you find useless, then you don’t have to use it; other people, meanwhile, may find a use for it (I certainly enjoyed using the plasma repeater).

Look, for example, at the assault rifle and the SMG; they both do the same thing (“spray and pray”) at the same range (short to medium), but there are definite differences between the two, and those differences can make for slightly different play styles.

Honestly, I would like a weapons sandbox that is diverse, but with weapons that are very useful within their given niche. I don’t really want that one weapon that can do everything, I wanna see people carrying around all kinds of weapons. Oh, and I want the assault rifle to return as a beast, and not like it was in H3/Reach.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a lot of weapons. Bring back some old favorites (BR), and introduce some new ones.
