weapon lowering

in past halo games (except CE and 2), the way to weapon lower has always been overly complicated or ridiculous, requiring players to input a whole button combo that, in most cases, would result in the player jumping and throwing grenades just trying to put their weapon down. and in some cases, players had to be offline. or players had to be on a specific controller scheme that not everyone was comfortable with. I actually liked how it was handled in 5, where it was an optional thing in custom game settings and was just 2 buttons (that did not throw grenades or jump) and was the same over each control scheme. the only issues with lowering in halo 5 was the animation speed, it was really fast, almost instantaneous, and some weapons (energy sword, rocket launcher, spartan laser) wouldn’t lower correctly or wouldn’t lower at all.

in Infinite, can we have weapon lowering like how it was in halo 5, only with a slightly slower animation and with all weapon lowering correctly?

this isn’t to discuss whether weapon lowering will be in the game, because it undoubtedly will, but is to inquire into how the feature will work

I highly doubt “weapon lowering” is even going to be anywhere near their priorities. I also don’t think it’s that big of a deal to have excluded.

Wasn’t weapon lowering requested by the community for things like Machinima?

I didn’t even know weapon lowering was a thing, I can’t imagine them bothering with it unless it’s a different kind of game this time around. Why do you want it, anyway? Just curious.

I like the way it was handled in H5 as well. Although, isn’t the animation speed on par with that of older games?

Not quite. In Halo 5 you go from having the weapon raised to lowered almost instantly. It essentially just snaps into place, and looks rather off putting for Machinima.

yes

I’m actually in the process of writing a story for a machinima series

yeah, its quite jarring. however, I found that if you ADS while weapon lowering it actually does the animation at a normal speed

Ohhh makes sense

Well at first it was simply a bug that moved your head up if you point it all the way down. However that little bug made a little web show Red vs Blue possible.

Now if 343 did not include weapon lowering I doubt Red vs Blue would be affected at all since they have such a large animation studio and as most of their series now heavily uses animation that is not possible in the game without a mod box. However that little feature does make it easier for more would be video creators to make stories using Halo as the Machinima animation engine. After all Civilization fixed the Bug that made Nuclear Gandi, but it was such a good bug they just had to include it in Gandi AI in every civilization game.

Red vs Blue would still be affected. While they do use their own animations for certain shots, 95% of the series is still shot using in game features and animations. The show could survive, but it absolutely would still be affected. But I doubt they’ll remove the feature anyhow, seeing as it’s made it this long without a removal, aside from Halo 5 launching without it until Machinima controls were introduced. Machinima aside, it also helps users make great custom screenshots.
