In halo 2 whatever weapon you were holding was shown in the cutscene, but in Halo 3 and reach it was just what was scripted.
Do you guys/girls want to have the weapon you were holding in the cutscene?
Yep.
It’s a minor detail, but one that is a nice component.
Would be nice if the could make that again.
> In halo 2 whatever weapon you were holding was shown in the cutscene
Well not exactly. That only worked for like three weapons, and it only was shown in a couple of cinematics.
You would think that if they can render any set of armor in the cinematics, they can render any weapon. Well, it’s not that simple. Not all weapons are held the same way. You can’t hold a sword the same way you hold a rocket launcher. Making different weapons show up in the cinematics to be held in anything more than just a generic pose would require building multiple rigs, and making the game choose which one to show based on what weapon you have.
That is just not practical and will likely never be done.
Remember the penultimate cinematic from Reach’s Pillar of Autumn? When Six reminds Keyes about the other deaths on Noble, Keyes reaches out and touches his/her forearm. Who does that? He should have touched Six’s shoulder, but that is impossible with the shoulder armor being able to change.
So if weapons are rendered in the cinematics as they were in the game, the designers are going to have to do a ridiculous amount of work to make things look acceptable no matter what is rendered, and the result will be severely limited cinematics.
That’s right. Never thought about that…
