Halo 2 teased the idea of using a Jackal’s shield as a weapon in dual wielding and I feel like the weapon MIGHT still be usable even with all that has occurred since then
The Jackal Shield would work in the following aspect:
- It would have a energy life of 100%, pure usual for covenant weaponry. Roughly 3 full clips of an AR would deplete a full shield to 0%.- When drawn, it would be held in front of the spartan, it would protect against headshots against enemies that were in front and on equal level footing- Due to the smaller dimensions of the shield, the Spartan would only be fully covered (from the front) if they held the shield while crouching.- damage taken by the shield would decrease it’s overall percentage, and if it took sustained damage of over 25% of it’s overall charge (meaning roughly 20 rounds from an AR) without respite, it would burst, and would come back within 5 seconds (similar to shields)- When sprinting, it would still be present over the Spartan’s front, though would move to his side, allowing for timed shots.- When not in use, the shield would not provide any protection.- The shield would not impact melee damage, though perhaps would make frontal Spartan Charges lethal. The following mechanics would make for a weapon that acted much like the Hardlight shield, but perhaps allowed for more mobility, and the cost of area of protection, and security that it would hold out against a long stream of fire. The shield would make it hard for a single Spartan to take them down without assisted fire, but not impossible. It would further help people have reason to charge in for CQC.
It’s not an amazing idea, but it would be another fresh weapon, and one more charged with protecting the user, rather than damaging the enemy.
I need more detail, but really I’m not sold on this idea.
If it’s a weapon you can switch between, then you could just pull it out when you’re one-shot and make it very hard for an enemy to finish you off. They would have to either shoot your body a ton of times, or shoot the shield a ton of times, and unlike bubble shield it wouldn’t be a one-time thing. If anything it should protect the body while leaving the head exposed. I feel like otherwise you’ve just created Armor Lock 2.0
Also the concept of throwing it like a disc seems pretty silly, and I wouldn’t imagine it being very effective either.
An Sangheili or Kig-Yar Point Defense Gauntlet…
I would like to see this have 100% initial battery, that can recharge to 50% if not used. The “weapon” is not a weapon but simply an accessory, it can protect against small arms fire, plasma, radiation and hardlight projectiles… however much like the Covenant Jackals the shield cannot deflect bullets, vehicles or heavy explosive weaponry.
I think it could be awesome! Usable with only small firearms like pistol, plasma pistol, needler, SMG? You use it by clicking on smart scope, you get cover with and walk slowly.
I like the idea of throwing it a la Captain America style. One shot kill Grunts, Jackals but not Elites or Spartans. May be 100% damage on their shields or something like 75-80%?
In campaign at least, im sure it could be a very interesting addition.
So, a easier to move hard light shield?
The entire point of taking away the abilities is to take away the Hard light shield, Jetpack, Hologram, etc. Why would we also toss on top of that a jackal shield? This would completely disrupt matchmaking in the objective playlists. Not necessarily the slayer games, but this would be too easy to run in to rooms that are already heavily guarded, and the bomb behind you, or for you to block as you run out with a flag. This just isn’t something I can get behind. They would have to make more weapon drops, etc. If this was fine tuned in Halo 6, maybe, but I don’t think it can be tuned well enough to make it viable for multiplayer.
It could work for campaign, the problem here is multiplayer.
I would take away the offensive aspect of it so it is not OP. One shot killing plus increased defense? No thanks.
Also, spartans are much taller than Jackals so I would like the shield to provide only body coverage, leaving the head and feet exposed.
The player could use a small weapon only with the shield. No smgs (as it is powerful enough by itself) only plasma pistol and magnum. (maybe on pick you also grab one of those two)
The shield should only recharge once or twice before dying completely.
Player with the shield should get reduce movility
In the end, we would have an interesting weapon that it is so restrictive that it is better not to use it. So why have it in the first place?
Therefore, I don’t believe this will happen in Halo 5.

Because it’s a pick up weapon and not a spawn in ability?

No, I’m saying that they are not supposed to have extra shields, especially one that is essentially a rechargeable overshield.

Only on the front yes?
We managed fine enough with hardlight shield and that ability frankly wasn’t good anyway lol. And it’s not rechargable if it uses traditional plasma weapon battery status plus the shield itself will likely be somewhat weak to cancelling out just like in the hands of Jackals. That and an OS covers you entirely.
I see nothing wrong with it. But would have been better in the days when we had dual wield.
You guys also neglect to remember that the shield only covers a portion of the user’s body, and that is only when not sprinting, in which case the front is revealed during certain frame of motion. The ability to throw it I agree is a long shot, but I was trying to think of how to apply it as an actual weapon as well, where really it could just work to allow the Spartan tackle to be more capable of a front line attack.
Also to the person that suggested being able to use a pistol, or small firearm during this… NO, no dual wielding, or anything else that would make this overly powerful… I’m looking to try to find a way to make the shield work. XD
Yes, but only in campaign.
In MP it woudn’t really work.
Have it work the same way it works for jackals. Allow a small weapon to be used while wielding it, have it be vulnerable to plasma weaponry, and if you shoot the player where the weapon slot is a few times then the player flinches and becomes exposed. Also treat it as a power weapon or powerup.

Wielding it would act like another weapon, or dual wielding, something I want to avoid doing. Having it act like a power up COULD be an idea, but not sure how easily Spartans can handle weapons such as the Sniper one handed, and the thing is that it would NEED to work with all weapons, just just some.
Also some people may not have understood this, but the shield wouldn’t cover all the body. It would protect the head (from the front) and my go to cover just over the groin of the Spartan. If they crouched, it perhaps would make the Spartan near impossible to hit, keeping in mind that the shield would still flicker if 25% of it’s total energy was used up too quickly. (This will also be applied to my top message for further clarification).
well seeing as 343 has confirmed no dual wielding, this aint happening.
