Weapon Idea Revisited: Orbital EMP Blast

Taking from Halo Reach’s Orbital Blast weapon, usable in Campaign and Firefight, what if we nerfed it, so that it could be used as a way to not kill enemies, but make an area into a killzone? Instead of blasting the area with explosions, it would send down an EMP pillar, knocking out all shields, and vehicles within a certain radius of the pillar.

The components of the weapon would be as follows:

  • The weapon could target an enemy much like how Orbital blasts have been able to before, but with more delay between it’s final targeted spot, and it’s arrival.- Any Spartans within the EMP’s radius would see their shields stripped about about double the rate of pulse grenade, but would never inflict health damage.- The radius of the EMP field would perhaps have about the radius of a full tank’s length.- A Spartan could be killed if hit by the EMP device, much like how Ordinance had the very rare kill on a Spartan, but very improbable to happen.- The EMP device would last a total of 30 seconds in an area, or until the device was destroyed.- The EMP device would have the health comparable to enough to survive roughly 2-3 grenades thrown in it’s direction.- The destruction of the EMP device would cause a minor explosive damage, capable of killing an unshielded Spartan if they were right next to it.This weapon would be mainly used in BTB maps to help suppress vehicle and infantry within an area, greatly useful for KotH game modes, or suppressing enemies to hold off their assault.

I could see some sort of blast that instantly disables anything near it working.

A device that persistently blocks off an area for thirty seconds though? Nah.

30 seconds if not destroyed… You could decide to destroy the device before the time is up to remove the radius of the EMP sooner. All it would take is about 2-3 good grenades’ worth of damage to kill it.
