Dear 343 team,
For this game to hit the most crowds, i feel a specific weapon handling mechanic must be in this game.
First. The ability to Aim Down sights.
Second. Once in zoomed in scope, Or aimed down, if you get shot by enemy, the weapon should NOT DE-SCOPE.
All first person shooters have this, doom, call of duty, titanfall2, so why dont we make it right? Halo 5 had it so close, but then i saw de-scoping occurs when shot.
So please, add ability to aim down sight, and descoping should also not happen when firing. Thanks for your time.
No… absolutely not! ADS is fine with some weapons like the BR and the new Commando weapon, but on all weapons like in Halo 5, no. Also when talking about de-scoping, you say, “All first person shooters have this, doom, call of duty, titanfall2.” Halo have the de-scoping mechanic to both stick out from the crowd and too make people rely on hip fire when in a fire fight. ADS is just for some semi auto and bolt action weapons because they are long range, they are just meant for a quick upper hand in battle until you start getting shot back. Fully auto weapons don’t need it and even some semi auto weapons don’t need it like the magnum/sidekick. ADS is an unneeded mechanic except on some weapons and de-scoping is a balancing mechanic that is good for games like Halo.
Ads should also be removed and the binoculars should be back
I dont particularly like the de-scoping thing, but ClassyGuy2005 makes a good point with hip fire in firefights

We should only have binocs with pistols and other weapons that dont need zoom, but I think all weapons need zoom

Sorry but what’s the difference between zoom and binoculars
Absolutely not.
It doesn’t matter what other games are doing.
You also made zero attempt at explaining why you think that should happen. Being able to kick your enemies out of scope is essential to the way Halo plays.

Zoom has a cross hair and can be fired from, whereas binoculars are just binoculars, no cross hair and deactivate once you start firing

Oh ok. I refer to zoom as ADS (aim down sights). So yes I agree with your original statement
Hard disagree.
Descope is a unique mechanic to Halo. The shield/ headshot mechanic + descoping adds a huge layer to the Halo combat dance that we lost in H4. They realised the mistake and rightfully brought it it back.
Gunfights are more interesting with descope around.
I agree with you,
I hope players can also have binoculars as separate items
Ok so if you dont like ADS then at least allow for zoom without descope. I believe the pistol in halo 1 ce, never descoped when zoomed?
Allow for the flinch when hit, but descoping should not happen.
no ADS unless it’s a scoped weapon. I highly disagree with OP.
It would be nice to see some modularity, I.E. ability to scope a AR or sidekick.
I do think that all the weapons should retain ADS, because shooting someone from a distance with an AR or a SAW is annoying as hell. However, descoping does need to be in the game to make firefights better so they have to rely on hip-firing. I don’t like the binoculars in any of the other games, except for Reach.

If you’re trying to cross map someone with a SAW then you may want to reconsider, the AR or SAW shouldn’t be used at long range, thats not the point of those weapons they’re supposed to have that trade off to encourage the use of weapons which are more suited to fit that role.

Descope is and always has been in Halo CE.
Can we not repeat sins of the past? H4 removed descoping and replaced it with flinch. The switch was nearly universally disliked at the time, and had huge intended consequences like the Sniper and DMR being so much more powerful than previous games.
Since snipers never descope when being shot in H4, it is wwwaaaayyyy harder to try and move in to an effective range if you’re in a gunfight with a sniper.
I don’t think ADS is necessary for most weapons and descoping when using something like a sniper rifle/dmr/br and being shot at is important for weapon balancing.
I would rather see a return to the smart link being consistent with CE/2/Reach than having ADS. Spartans have a targeting system built into their armor that projects the reticle onto their visor which is capable of a 2x optical zoom without any additional equipment such as the scope of a weapon and basically unless you are using a sniper rifle Spartans are going to be shooting from the hip all the time with almost every weapon they pick up.

You are correct, however, in Warzone, those maps are normally long range, and having ADS on a SAW, especially “The Answer” would be benficial.

Having a x12 zoom on the DMR would also be beneficial, but that’s not the point. It’s about knowing when you should engage in a fight and when you need to look for another tool to complete the job. The whole point of the SAW is that it melts you in medium and close quarters, it should be a weapon that’s fired from the hip at full boar. It doesn’t need a zoom because that’s not its sandbox role to fill.
The VK (new heavy AR in infinite) has a scope but it makes sense, its got a slower fire rate than the AR which means that in close quarters you either have to have decent aim or get killed by someone who has a weapon that’s better suited for that encounter. But it can be used at longer ranges which is where the AR falls short, if the AR had a scope then you might as well stop adding any more auto weapons to the sandbox because the AR would basically fill that role already.
If every weapon had ADS then there’s no penalty for picking an inadequate weapon for an engagement, the fun comes from mastering when to pick what and out playing your opponent by mastering those mechanics and outgunning them, rather than “Mhhhhh ,that guy shooting me is far away, guess I’ll just press LT and call it a day”.
Power weapon version of the sniper with a 0% drop rate, 100% accuracy, and 25x (or more) zoom. Legendary obviously. Although this is less a mechanic and more a cool idea.
