Weapon Designs

So Halo 4 brought back some weapons from past Halo’s and I think everyone notices that they had a huge overhaul in design. For example, compare the BR design in Halo 4 and compare it to the Halo 3 BR. Big difference. So I was kind of wondering if 343 is going to keep the designs of the weapons relatively unchanged in the next Halo or give the weapons another “radical” design change (like from Halo 3 to Halo Reach or from Reach to Halo 4). What do you guys think?

I actually hope they bring the Human Weapon Stock back to the appearances of Reach. They lacked the smooth, shiny textures seen in Halo 4 and had more of a gritty, used appearance about them. Function over aesthetics.

Actually, it is one of my hopes that they will have ‘Classic’ Weapon aesthetic skins so that they can have more than one type of the same weapon in the game, as it would make sense if they decide to have a mission where older UNSC forces or a different branch of the UNSC was involved.

For instance, alongside skins of the AR like Prime, you could have AR ‘Classic’, which would make the AR have the visage of the Halo 3/4 era AR instead of the newest issue.

Brilliant idea to have classic skins!

Covenant weapons (and vehicles… and the aliens themselves…) were completely and utterly ruined in Halo 4. The audio is reminiscent of generic sci-fi weapons, they’ve received visual downgrades, and a certain iconic weapon (cough Plasma Rifle cough) was removed in favour of a bland, uninspired piece of rubbish.

For example, the Carbine sounds very strange, the Energy Sword makes a ridiculous zappy sound, the Gravity Hammer sounds pathetic and doesn’t really have much to do with gravity (thanks, Reach!), Plasma (and frag) grenades are unbalanced (probably an illogical counter to them being included the terrible idea that was loadouts, but it seems to be another legacy of “Reach” :P) and the Beam Rifle… ugh. Don’t even get me started on the Beam Rifle. It uses the hideous Reach Focus Rifle model (wut??) and sounds like a stupid cheesy laser. They even managed to downgrade the disgusting Reach Banshee model. The only visual improvement is the Ghost, and even that suffers from a plethora of awful audio and the terrible vehicle mechanics inherited from Reach.

The UNSC weapons, especially the AR, are alright in comparison… except the BR. What have they done to it?! D: No, I personally am not satisfied with the state of Halo as of Halo 4. I hope Halo 5 is drastically improved and is inspired by the original trilogy in most aspects, rather than the catastrophically bad spinoff that was Reach and the somehow even worse disaster that was Halo 4.

THIS. SO MUCH THIS.

Is it just me, or did Halo 4 feel more like a sequel to Reach than it did Halo 3?

Although personally I felt as though Reach is worse than Halo 4.

Agree except the CC back in 2/3 it sounded like a generic pew pew gun I like it now and I love how its balanced with the BR for once…(off topic but ya)

Everything else I 100% agree with good post ^-^!

I want the SMG. That was my most favorite gun in Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 3: ODST. And hopefully the magnum from Halo 2.

Pretty much everything you said about the covenant arsenal I agree with. I was not a fan of the gritty art style of Reach, especially on the covenant stuff, which is known for being smooth, sleek, and rounded in design. The Banshee is the worst offender, and I can only hope they take it back to the CE-3 model. Leave the gritty stuff for the Brutes, where it actually makes sense and works.

Also, I didn’t like how they took this:

And turned it into this:

Because now it looks very similar to this:

(^ This is a shotgun from COD)

Its been “Reach-ified”.

Note the similar gritty textures and that weird yellow line that seems out of place between the last two. Obviously I’m not comparing graphics quality, this is more about art direction.

Well, that’s just like the Assault Rifle being removed in Halo 2.
