Weapon Customization May Actually Be In Halo 5

So when Halo 5’s Multiplayer Beta was revealed at E3 2014, we got a very brief CGI clip. In it, we saw, what a lot of people theorized including me, the MA5K (looks very similar to the Battle Rifle; doesn’t have a scope).

Flash-forward to when the first footage of Halo 5’s Multiplayer Beta was shown in a ViDoc, and a quick slide-show of majority of the weapons that was going to be in the Beta was shown. When the SMG showed up, it didn’t have a scope.
However, fast forward a little bit, and we find out the SMG does indeed have a scope, which we all used personally in the Beta.

Now, when you loaded up the Beta, a picture of four Spartans was shown (this poster was also the marketing picture for the Beta). In the picture, the Spartan on the very left was holding what again appeared to be the MA5K.
We all know now that weapon wasn’t in the Beta, at all.
Upon closer inspection of the picture however, you can notice “BR55-HB” is written on it, indicating it’s supposed to be a Battle Rifle.

Then we get the Halo 5 Cover Art, which shows Locke holding the allegedly MA5K, the now-known Vale holding a scopeless SMG, and Fred holding a scopeless DMR.

But when I talked to a few of my friends, some of them said that 343i just simply forgot to put the scopes on… on 3 different weapons… on 4 separate occasions…
Now, this isn’t the first time something has slipped by 343i’s eyes (Escalation has actually done this a few times), so maybe, juuust maybe, they forgot… 4 times…

Then the GameInformer magazine came out, and now we know for sure. We see Tanaka with a normal DMR, in-game-engine. And then we see Fred with a scopeless DMR, in-game-engine.

This was definitely no “accident”. 343i didn’t just “forget” this time. There are scopeless BRs, DMRs, and SMGs in Halo 5.

So, does this mean weapon customization? Or just weapon variants you can find lying around the map? Or both?

In terms of PVP, I don’t think 343 would dare have customizable weapons. I just see fire on the internet that wouldn’t cease if that was the case. Though for different varients of weapons, I can totally see it.

Interchangeable sights maybe… but the scope less BR85 being the MA5K? You must be joking, right?

Its possible that it works like in Crysis. You can just mod the gun on the fly. Press a button and then take off the scope and put a silencer on it…

According to Game Informer, every Spartan in your fireteam will have unique HUD and loadout, so I assume they will have custom weapons as well.

There could be multiple forms of the weapons rather than customization. If you look at halo online, there are alternate versions of each weapon, and they all function different, however I do not think we will have loadouts return to MP.

Weapon customisation would be cool! Hepfefully it isn’t OP or broken. So, when you take a scope away, the range decreases, but the damage at close range increases etc.
It would be weird to see though! haha

Im fine with this as long as its something that has to be set in forge or custom games. Weapons should not change to a players preference when picked up. For that matter, i would prefer only the default weapons be present in PvP, leave the others for customs or PvE.

I think its a mixture of weapon design changing over time and weapon variants to give characters a sense of identity.

The HUD reticle may have a factor in that. The most common Halo weapon, the Assault Rifle/MA5 variant has no scope, but your suit/Cortana provide a reticle for you on your HUD. This may be the case as we’ve seen different images with scopeless weapons.

All that is far more likely to be placeholders than anything else, and CGI trailers all have those kinds of discrepancies. I honestly don’t know how anyone can claim it is anything but a BR in that E3 trailer.

That said, this new multiplayer experience that has been hinted at could very well include unbalanced mechanics like weapon customization. 343 only confirmed loadouts and ordnance were gone from the Arena(feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) multiplayer experience. In fact the only thing I think they 100% confirmed had been removed entirely were Armor abilities.

So in the ‘Arena’ experience? No. In this new multiplayer experience? Almost nothing is off the table.

Has there been an in-game shot of these weapons? My interpretation of all these are that they’re simply concept art and early assets of weapons, simply for display purposes.

Hopefully no customizeable weapons for MP. Campaign can do whatever, id appreciate it

This has been puzzling me as well I hope we’ll find out monday.

Same here! 343i will keep some things a mystery until we find out on our own but hopefully something this will be answered for us come Monday.

I would absolutely love specializations in the form of armor and weapon customization.

I truly thought 343 Halo was fun. It was just the lack of a True Halo presence that turned me away from multiplayer.
With that said, even after throwdown came out and a good amount of playlist got some “classic” gametypes added…It was still a great breath of fresh air to play NewGen Halo.

I think Halo and only Halo is in the perfect position to act as a medium between all types of FPS. There seems to be Classic Arena support this time around. Squad Based play with multi-team. CoD style with BreakOut. Big Team. Halo can literally do all that.

So, basically, I hope 343’s awful playlist management from Halo 4 doesn’t make them think that specializations were never fun for Halo.
