So when Halo 5’s Multiplayer Beta was revealed at E3 2014, we got a very brief CGI clip. In it, we saw, what a lot of people theorized including me, the MA5K (looks very similar to the Battle Rifle; doesn’t have a scope).
Flash-forward to when the first footage of Halo 5’s Multiplayer Beta was shown in a ViDoc, and a quick slide-show of majority of the weapons that was going to be in the Beta was shown. When the SMG showed up, it didn’t have a scope.
However, fast forward a little bit, and we find out the SMG does indeed have a scope, which we all used personally in the Beta.
Now, when you loaded up the Beta, a picture of four Spartans was shown (this poster was also the marketing picture for the Beta). In the picture, the Spartan on the very left was holding what again appeared to be the MA5K.
We all know now that weapon wasn’t in the Beta, at all.
Upon closer inspection of the picture however, you can notice “BR55-HB” is written on it, indicating it’s supposed to be a Battle Rifle.
Then we get the Halo 5 Cover Art, which shows Locke holding the allegedly MA5K, the now-known Vale holding a scopeless SMG, and Fred holding a scopeless DMR.
But when I talked to a few of my friends, some of them said that 343i just simply forgot to put the scopes on… on 3 different weapons… on 4 separate occasions…
Now, this isn’t the first time something has slipped by 343i’s eyes (Escalation has actually done this a few times), so maybe, juuust maybe, they forgot… 4 times…
Then the GameInformer magazine came out, and now we know for sure. We see Tanaka with a normal DMR, in-game-engine. And then we see Fred with a scopeless DMR, in-game-engine.
This was definitely no “accident”. 343i didn’t just “forget” this time. There are scopeless BRs, DMRs, and SMGs in Halo 5.
So, does this mean weapon customization? Or just weapon variants you can find lying around the map? Or both?
