These are a few ideas I had for Forerunner weaponry. They’re a bit exotic, but I’d like to see weapons that are a little more interesting than “small gun that shoots lasers”, “medium gun that shoots lasers faster” and “large gun that shoots lasers the fastest”.
So, without further ado, my thoughts:
Nerve-disrupter: Canonically speaking, the Halos only kill sentient life because they disrupt higher nerve function (essentially they fry the brains out of anything with the equivalent to a frontal lobe). This would be an incredibly powerful weapon, so why wouldn’t the technology be integrated into infantry warfare? It would work like a chargeable shotgun: a quick trigger pull would create a narrow, short-ranged pulse that would only kill from a few meters away. However, if the trigger is held, it would increase the range and diameter of the shot. Chances are it would be strictly hit-and-miss, since the pulse would have the ability to pass clean through armor.
Gene disintegration beam: This could be incorporated into the sentinel beam, or an equivalent weapon. This weapon’s function is essentially to destroy genetic material, ripping apart nucleic acids at the molecular level. However, unlike the nerve-disrupter, it simultaneously fires a white-hot plasma beam, and must puncture armor plating if it is to do any damage. Chances are it would only be tailored to one type of nucleic acid, though. That way, it would be less powerful against enemies whose genetic material does not match, and would basically dissolve whatever enemy it was customized to destroy, most likely the Flood.
Liquid projectile rifle: A small firearm, similar in general size and build to a submachine gun or an MA5K, which loads in liquid metal capsules and fires them in quick bursts of 7 rounds. When traveling through the air, they would remain in a semi-liquid state until they came into contact with a solid surface, at which point they would solidify and cause damage. As a fluid, they could pass cleanly through energy shielding, and apply damage directly to the target’s health. The drawbacks would be that it would fire inaccurately (anything past mid-range and the rounds disintegrate), and that the rounds themselves would not be as effective damage-wise as more conventional solid projectiles.
What do you guys think? If you’ve got any new ideas or would like to add onto my ideas, I’d be more than happy to hear.
