Weak Situational Awareness Ques

This is something that’s been in the back of my mind while playing and I just realized what I’ve been thinking about. So by situational awareness ques I mean things like gunshots, footsteps, directional damage markers, basically anything that helps you get a grasp of the world around you since most of our senses don’t pick up on things in-game.

I play with a headset and I’m really dependent on sound in shooters. Most games I’m able to out maneuver an enemy purely on the directional sound of his/her footsteps. In this game I noticed I can’t really do that. I mean the sounds there, but its muted compared to most other games. You own gunshots sound cool, but I’ve noticed that enemy gunfire isn’t as loud and doesn’t project their position as much. The motion sensor that’s meant to help with this is small and outside your main view, so in the heat of action its difficult absorb information from both the sensor and what’s right in front of you. What really triggered this revelation was in my previous game where I died because I didn’t realize I was being fired upon until my shields were gone. At the same time the announcer was informing the game of a point control capture and further silenced any audio cues that would normally trigger my senses.

idk how many others have this issue, but I play a lot of shooters and this generally isn’t a problem I have with others.

Did you die by the hydra? I’ve noticed (as useless as it is) that when you are being shot by it, there is barely any audible or visual indication.

But yeah in general, you sometimes die without even realizing you are being shot. Kind of strange, I never had this problem in other Halo games

People have been saying that there is an audio glitch where sounds are quiet or muted from behind. I have noticed audio problems despite having a Dolby digital surround sound headset which I used to a great advantage actually in Halo 4, which is when I got the headset.

Additionally, I’ve found CoD 2019 to have very distracting and loud sound effects that drown out so many moments. I even boosted the highs and lowered the lows for that game, so when everything is finally silent, I can hear footsteps really well.

It’s been multiple guns since then from what I can tell. The other Halos usually had strong visual and audio cues, but yeah this one seems different. I’m messing around with my headset settings to see if it helps, but other games I’ve always been good with the presets.
