Everyone knows that near the end of halo 5 it was more of a rescue mission. Maybe near the begginning we were hunting him but 343 dropped a hint that no one noticed.
in the launch trailer for halo 5 it said “the BEGGINING of the greatest hunt in gaming history”
We were never hunting chief, were hunting cortana. Hunt the truth was never referring to chief either. It was all about oni cover ups and that includes the guardians.
Hunt the truth was referring to who was activating the guardians.
Halo 6 we will be continuoing the hunt for cortana, and that will bring us to the halo ring.
So 343 lied about their advertising, that’s not really a revelation at this point.

Man I can’t even go back to play the campaign on Legendary.

I think this is a super solid theory, and I kind of wish this happens because that would be awesome. Besides, Cortana has gone so far off the deep end…like Jean Grey crazy so I could totally see it happening.
After Hunt the Truth #1 I was hyped for the game. If the campaign would have been what they led me to believe (Master Chief leading a revolution against ONI) it would have been awesome. Honestly I was playing BF4 exclusively at the time so I was looking forward to Chief vs humans on Earth type planets. Major letdown. We got a mild argument followed by an anticlimactic rescue. Yawn. It is nice to look at and the game mechanics are fun, but the story…no.
Cortana being the plot twist isn’t the problem. Its the fact that nothing about the marketing matched the final product. Specifically a Locke v Chief rivalry. I wasn’t expecting Locke to hunt chief the entire game. I was expecting 2 Soldiers with different motives to clash and have lasting effects based off the Locke v Chief commercials with alternate views. People want to write it off like 343 launched a masterful ad campaign that hid some amazing plot twist. IMO the story I gathered from the commercials is way more interesting.

I think it will be very interesting if you had to hunt down Cortana for the next few games and maybe even have to destroy her.
