We want more info on "armor coating".

the “reach style credits” they talked about seem to be the premium currency and you use them to buy levels (as well as shop items), its how most people maxed out the flight pass.

Do you need to buy the pass to do so ? Sorry for the questions I have not played Halo in any form since just after Halo 5 dropped, loot crates were the final straw for me.

youll have to buy the pass to get the “premium” rewards, but to note that it seems like every tier will have a free item with it. then after buying it, it seems you can level it with limited amount of challenges per day/week or you can buy the levels with real cash.

I’d say the best thing we can do is pre-emptive feedback.
No I wasn’t able to, got the invite but I had to be away for the entire weekend and then some days.

Red shift definitely resembles Reach (heck one i even use in reach), but Monarch looks like what should be a base game color choice in Halo:CE. It should be the kind of thing thats baseline or a simple unlock in the game, not some promotional garbage.

yes you are completely right for what you say there.

Another problem is players will not be able to start with their favorite color combination (if it even exists), unlike in previous Halos.

on top of that is the idea that say they make your favorite color combination but its a shop daily item and it happens to be the day you dont play or your internet/power goes out. well now your favorite color is in the game you just cant use it because of arbitrary restrictions

Yeah, I hope 343 listens and has the ability to choose a selection of primary and secondary colors (at least as much as Halo 5) in the game as an update, if not at launch. Imagine if you played a racing game like Forza but found you could only use premade liveries, not actual custom colors.

I got an opportunity to play the most recent flight - the game plays incredibly, I loved it, but the way the armor coatings are implemented only verifies user’s frustrations.
Things I found during the flight

  • Very often did entire teams and player sets have the exact same armor coating, - Very often did I accidentally get shot at for having a coating the same color as the enemy team, - There was very little color variety (often being redundant, a lot of white+blue), - And what color variety there was, could have easily been replicated by the legacy color system, - The creative limits that 343 have taken with this were rarely taken advantage of.Being only a flight, there’s obviously going to be more in the finalized game, but this still shows the heavy limitations of the current system. If I had options of pizza coating, covenant plated coating, rusted coating, then our complaints wouldn’t be justified because the Infinite would be innovating on an existing system and 343, but as it is, it’s an obvious step backwards.

Small correction to that post, 343 did say in a stream that every level would have an option on the free tier, but they had to issue a correction. That was a mistake, and there won’t be an unlock at every level in the free tier of pass. I’m sure in theory you could pay to upgrade the free pass, I see no reason as to why 343 would stop you, but I don’t imagine it’s at all worth it, particularly since you don’t have to worry about the pass disappearing. If you are planning on buying the campaign, they have confirmed there will be some unlocks associated with playing the campaign. At the moment though we don’t know if that’s just one unlock for beating the game, multiple unlocks for beating it on different difficulties or potentially even includes unlocks for getting achievements like Halo 3. I would assume the second option personally, but hope for the third.

The entire system seems to be in flux right now with information. I agree that they should release more information and let the community know what to expect without shoeing or detailing specific color patterns. To me the lack of information means that they themselves are not 100% confidant with the system they have created or they would be happy to talk more about it. I could be wrong, but I think that we will be disappointed with the entire system once it launches. After playing the Flight I do not like the system that was shown, but it could be just a small portion of the overall larger system.

I do not like the color wheel approach that dictates what part of the armor is what color instead of us choosing the color. I would much rather they did a very deep customization system that allowed for color choice on each individual armor piece and instead of a complete shader you can unlock individual shaders for shoulders or chest. That would allow a bit more creativity when building your Spartan instead of just a shader that locks in the colors. Destiny system is a perfect example of this.

Additionally the sheer amount of armor that was available in Halo 5 was awesome some of which had it’s own pattern that was also cool. I hope that 343 does not strip the armor selection down to only a small amount and only have the shown shader system for coloring.
