We want more info on "armor coating".

Some Armor coatings will be paid and others you can unlock that’s probably all there is to know about Armor Coatings really and I’m not to keen on them but I don’t dislike them either

Found this on Reddit and thought you guys would enjoy!

Period. - Real customisation is gone. You’re just, beating the flim-flam out of us 343.

This is painfully agreeable… The “clarification” we were given was definitely a beat around the bush. Maybe if we were provided an actual presentation as to how it works instead of this dead silence.

I think they should make a mix of coatings and armor color channels, primary, secondary, tertiary.

You get a coating. WITH the shown colors and details included. BUT. You could change those colors with what colors you want. From other coatings you own as well? Possibly, without having that particular cooating lose its uniqness. Then " hayabusa " coatings with added accessories comes to mind.
You only buy the framewrok, well… coating as micro ugh transaction.

Now I know, it will be 343 way of having income and these ARE made by the industries on the floor workers. Doing their best.
Say how much of a 5$ coating will go to those on the floor, shared to them?
Not advocating 20$ coatings and such here. Then IM OUT.
Because there are other ways for getting income in a non preditory way.
If yikes for some reason there will be 10. 20 $ coatings etc. There should be a pack of 3 or so, AND/ OR have a very noble reasons of founding charity or such. But in that case, players who streams Halo Infinite can help with that as well, sure 343 could indeed do their part aswell.

I am disappointed at the armor coating system as it is now. This opens the range to a multitude of microtransactions. I understand their addition on the side of the business: keep the lights on and people on the payroll. As a customer, I am annoyed that my money is the only thing companies will think about in regards to my experience. The idea has an interesting implication, i.e. textures to the colors. But, I go back to the idea of micro-transactions, regardless of the customization and creativity stunting. Should I pay to simply see my armors in a new shade of white and red? I could achieve the same affect with changing my monitor’s RGB values. In my opinion, the cost of buying new colors on top of a console, game, and other things–while not a large weight–is just another thing I can buy. Especially if the preferred color combinations available to everyone are hard to achieve.

Regardless of the economical implications of a micro-transaction Halo game, the notion of creativity is stunted. I am only allowed to chose from specific colors, textures, and designs. We do not need a million different possibilities to be intrigued. Halo Reach had a select few armor sets and colors, but still remains a really great system. While armor’s being locked behind higher tiers is a necessity, something should remain accessible to the new players. The answer to that in the previous Halo games was color selection. If there was one thing I could count on when starting out, it was the colors. I knew armor came with time, but I could still be my personal Spartan.

I do not want my comment merely to be dismissed as nay-saying. So, here are my ideas and take on the new direction. I believe having different textures for the armor sets is a great new addition. Even if the coating mechanic must stay, here is a compromise: Color selection, but color application on the character being locked into sets. For instance, two colors would be applied to the character in a very basic way: Secondary color on the legs and arms, primary colors on the torso and helmet. The coating could change the way those colors are applied i.e. stripes, blocks, or camouflage. This allows the player to customize, but still respect the new mechanic 343i has created. There are ways for 343i to keep their changes but respect the traditional mechanics veteran players would respect (generally).

Why is 343i still being quite on this, its been ages and the community hasn’t gone silent, just address it already

After seeing the Halo Infinite Color Customization for the first time I was severely disappointed. They are going to be trading away all sense of customization for a developer created skin. Here is how I think it can be fixed. If we were to have normal or slightly deeper customization available to us and then 343 can sell their created skins via microtransactions that would work quite well. If it were to look like Call of Duty where you get a armor and maybe some skins through a microtransaction, the community would probably be quite happier than it is right now. But everything else besides graphics and colors seems great. If you could choose your own colors for each individual armor piece. (Thigh attachment, wrist attachment, chest plate, etc…) I think some really cool stuff could happen for halo infinite. I guarantee the community would extremely love it.

Can you imagine? Elites finally return as playable characters in Halo Infinite, but due to a lack of colour customisation, 343 releases a set of armour coatings specially designed to be used with them: Honour Guard coating, Spec Ops coating, etc. It seems to me that the armour coatings are designed with the Spartans in mind, so if Elites were to become playable again (and I really hope they do), it could cause some slight issues in that the colours ‘don’t look right’ on them, so to say.

Ps. I’m currently the newest member here (I think). Hello, everyone! I hope I haven’t broken any rules with this first post of mine…

Edit:

Thank you! Sorry I took so long to reply, I did not want to double post and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to put a quote box into an edit. Yes, I think I know what you mean, I browsed this forum a little bit before making my account. In fact, I think there were some “sideways posts” right in this very thread! About Armour Coatings, I think the best course of action would be to wait for more information, as there is almost none right now.

The Monarch and Red Shift coatings sure are getting a lot of attention…but what about the Granular armour coating? It seems to have gone unnoticed…

Hello and welcome! Don’t be too discouraged by some posts as they can go sideways rather quickly. Overall this a good community with great communication between us. Glad to add another Spartan to the fight!

Glad to see this thread is still up and kicking. It’s really important that we don’t simply resign ourselves to the Coatings system (as we understand it) and let 343i off the hook on it.

I understand, appreciate, and agree with concerns that 343i gets too much unconstructive flak over too many things, and I’ve never been one to accuse them of deliberately “ruining Halo” (what could they possibly stand to gain from that mindset?).

That said, the Coatings system is one of the most egregious and tone-deaf decisions they’ve made with this series (No spliscreen in H5 and the removal of classic Firefight being the other two gargantuan ones to me) and keeping a dialogue open about it is really important. If they can’t explain why this system is as bad as most of us think it is and they’re not willing to even try to meet us halfway on it, then they’re not as tuned into the community as they like to pretend they are.

Hopefully they actually give an update on what their plans are as they were supposed to do one last week, but used the US Elections as an excuse.
Not sure how the counting of ballots affected 343 in the slightest and just feels like a sleazy delay tactic.

At this point, I’ve already pretty much wrote off Halo: Infinite, not big on over-monetization in games.
There’s far more games to play after all.

I’d expect silence. They’ve been silent for quite some time about real news. I wouldn’t expect to know anything until they have some kind of multiplayer reveal

Companies do this when they know they’ve thrown a live grenade and are hoping the community will calm down by the time they put more information out. There is absolutely zero reasons why the US Election should have interfered with a community update to a video game.

My biggest gripe with this system is ironically Anthem’s system. For all its faults, customization is one thing I think Anthem got right. In that system, all of the javelin armors have five or six channels. Each channel can then be slotted with individual color and texture options. That is what 343 should have done for Halo Infinite’s armor customization system instead of removing a tradition and replacing it with Destiny’s -Yoink- shader system, which even after the ability to color individual parts separately sucks because textures and colors don’t come in all possible combinations.

In short, this system as we have heard so far is a terrible mistake and a huge step backward. If you want to do this right, either scrap this new coating system and return to the traditional primary/secondary system, or convert it into an Anthem system.

I am concerned about armor coatings being the move in Infinite.

Who knows, maybe this blind loyalty will get them a discount on their purchase of the rainbow. Jokes aside, as of today i found out that not only is it colors that have been monetized, but emblems and challenges, if you still think you won’t be aggressively hounded by micro-transactions at this point, i don’t know what to say. I bet some of you people would be fine getting charged money for the bullets in your Battle rifle.

> you would call anyone with an objective/mindset regarding this as a blind loyal fan I’d say to you have you played a game with a similar system? was there much concern within that game and you do know that Free to play multiplayer’s need a source of income as money doesn’t grow on trees and like most people who have played either a MMO or games as a service would see this kind of micro-transaction appearing along with other similar ideas.
>
> also the idea that halo infinite would be some sort of farmineville cash grab and you’d be paying for each and every bullet like GTA 5 online for example is ridiculous as features and mechanics for it wouldn’t make any sense.

Stripping away our customization only to give it a slight make-over and sell it back to us, is disgusting. They said the customization would allow us to be unique, only if you have the cash to pay though. Besides, is it really free? They’re charging full triple A money for the campaign, the multiplayer isn’t at all free. I don’t want to have to pay 5 dollars for purple.

Looks like no announcement about anything today either.
Wonder what the excuse next week will be for there not being an update.

some pretty cool artwork though!

Here is a link to the Granular armour coating. Sorry it’s quite blurry.
When you think things can’t get any worse regarding this situation… Unfortunately, I saw the granular armour coating which is an exclusive to the “chips ahoy” cookies. Despite the image I saw not being very clear, I’ve noticed the visor colour was different than the previous coatings that we were shown. Does that mean our visors are preset to whichever wretched coating we’re stuck with? Surely not?! How did we let this one slip our minds?
