Armor customization is part of the Halo experience. So if you don’t have a good customization system, it cannot be a proper Halo game. Forget about that anyway, the multiplayer is F2P so we can all say goodbye to maximum quality.

If you compare the possibilities of armor coating combinations to a 2 layer system, which is what we had in previous Halos, then there is an argument to be made that more variety could be found in armor coating. But this doesn’t take into account what Halo Infinite’s color system could and should have been.

Basically, the 2 layer system should have been applied to every single piece. For example, this means players would be able to get green shoulders, a red helmet and purple legs if they want. This is the system we should have had for Halo Infinite, and this system gives much more freedom than the armor coating system.

If it is and we have basic flat coatings to start with of the colors we’re used to, then we will be able to use the color combos we’ve always loved- it’s worth noting that the color system of old predetermined what parts of what armor did get painted whether we wanted it to or not.

I think you have it backwards. The whole purpose of this system is to create as many color combinations as possible in order to create a grind and incentivize players to pay. This obviously means you won’t have full suit coatings. That would drastically lower the monetization opportunities. Its much more profitable to have different colors for different pieces. So no, we’re not going to be fine. This system will be an insane grind and tons of players will fall for the trap and get the credit card.

Sean W Possible System Implementationworth a look at. PUBG game looks awfully familiar to what we could see in Infinite.
Not a massive fan if I’m honest, feels like a cheap marketing/micro transaction system. Really disappointed the original colour system won’t be returning if I’m honest, I get that it takes alot of time to colour the individual pieces and input them into the game but we’ve had colours since the very start.
Feels like a one step forward 4 steps back latley with the infinate development.
I do hope they get their act together for launch so I can create new halo memories which granted have eluded me since H5.
I just want to say what I feel would make a fair micro transaction. I personally do not mind cosmetic microtransactions. I think it becomes a problem when you can purchase attachments for weapons or improve your chance of winning kind of transactions.
I feel that you should be able to color armor and if you are paying for skins it should be unique.
Although there might be the ability through the campaign or through progression on your multiplayer character that you can get regular colors and I feel that there is not enough information on this topic.
Hopefully there will be more selective coloring system because I’ve never quite been able to get the gray I want with a secondary aqua color.
I just feel bad for developers getting death threats. That is seriously not okay. I do think microtransactions have a place in gaming and if done fairly people that choose to use microtransactions to express themselves should be explored by game companies. Only once microtransactions help people have a unfair advantage at any gametype should not be practice by game companies.

Totally agree with you. I mean, look at Call of Duty Warzone. They are thriving with their micro transactions.

If it avoids the above, I’m fine with it. If it allows that type of pay to win then I would have to say the games implementation is hot garbage.
I think armor coatings are a lesser evil… Anyways, I care more for armor pieces than colors, so maybe I am in the minority.
i would like to see old school colours but the armour has to be awesome aswell. we will see when they release info on it in future
Has their been any information on whether or not color of visor’s are linked to the coatings as well? Im hoping they’ll keep that separate similar to armor pieces.

You’re right and believe me I wholly agree with you.
Honestly, I can find ways to monetize colors much easier.
-Decals should be paid.
-A color wheel should exist, but should cost around 5 dollars.
-Custom emblems should be monetized.
-Start off with 3 of each regular color, like in Halo 3/Reach
-Pay for extra shades of colors (Like the ones in Halo 5)
-Grittiness and dirt on armor should be paid for (Or at least have whole armor grittiness and individual parts being modified as a paid thing)
I honestly hope armor coatings are a per-piece thing where you can make your shoulders monarch and your helmet red shift as an example.
I’m not a developer but I don’t know how the player would be able to adjust colors if they are baked into the 7-layer coatings if they coatings themselves are only available to developers. i don’t know how much change to actual programming would be necessary nor how intrusive to that side of things to get this specific change in place. I’d be interested in hearing input from someone directly involved in that type of programming/development. It could easily answer the questions of whether or not this type of “change” could be easily done/implemented.
We can sit here all day and give input but I’ve yet to hear from someone in the industry as to how this can be changed easily or quickly or if there are too many aspects for it to be implemented as such.
Not really intended for the poster, more of a generalized post. Love the alternate solutions though!!

Agreed with all the solutions above. The last portion however I think isn’t possible. The coatings seem to be applied across all sections of the armor appropriately/proportionately. It may change in very minor aspects say if you have a huge shoulder pad or something but I do not think any portions of the individual armor pieces are going to be colored or able to combine multiple coatings.

Agree with what you are saying…but to a certain extent. I wouldn’t call it “Insulting”. I know everyone is frustrated with 343 Industries, but I think that they are doing their best. Now, there are still a few problems I have with them. But their MAIN problem, is NOT listening to their community.
So I know that 343 hasn’t been great at being open with information on Halo: Infinite. However, the lack of response to this glaring issue is terrifying to me. They’re aware that they’ve lost business due to the armor coatings. Yet they carry on as normal, with the only information being a new ice cream sponsorship, information on gun sounds, and one poor community manager’s Tweets.
When the graphics were criticized, we got a response. With this, we’ve received no official response whatsoever. No justification, no corrections, nothing.
I typically don’t mind very little of a game being revealed prior, all for me to uncover later. But with how much 343 has been taking away since Halo 5 through lack of local multiplayer, and keeps taking away through Halo Infinite’s color removal, I can’t have that kind of faith in this product anymore, and will not be purchasing Halo: Infinite. Unless they can communicate anything ro ease my concerns, what they’ve shown that they’re making is no longer Halo and is no longer something I’m interested in investing in. I can’t buy a product on faith alone. Sorry, 343.

I’d call them not listening and fibbing pretty insulting.

Two completely different demographics. I know it doesn’t seem like that since both are very big competitive FPS games, but they aren’t the same and using the same monetization tactics won’t work the same on both. C.O.D long figured out their base is pure multiplayer. Campaign was always secondary, and in some cases, not even in the game at all and they still made millions. Halo has never been like that. If they tried to put a new halo game out every year, or put out one with no campaign, it would have crippled the company. People love this world, it’s story, it’s characters, etc. That’s why these kind of changes aren’t being embraced like they are on the more disposable franchises like sports titles or C.O.D.

Yeah, I suppose Halo is more of a Campaign game.
That is why I bought Reach, ODST, 3…And I just purchased two CoD games for the multiplayer. So you have a valid point.
