If we can mix and match and players have a good amount of colors to start out with (like 30-40), no one will have a problem with this new system. Then maybe we can stick to these cool sets with pre-determined shades like Red Shift which has a bunch of different colors going on while also being able to create our own patterns.

You need to buy/unlock the coating for each and every piece of equipment if that makes sense.

Don’t drink that stuff if you do, its beyond bad for you.

Oh Gods this really is going to get that bad isn’t it???

I know that you can’t make your own coating, the coating is a tool for devs to make a ton of coatings really fast and easy. I’m guessing that Halo Infinite is going to be like destiny 2 shaders. Halo infinite has a strong vibe of what destiny 1 has except the F2P unless you count destiny 2 being F2P later rather then at launch.
I think that the armor coatings are a good concept but they should not replace primary and secondary colors, also the fact that we haven´t seen multpilayer gameplay gives me hope that maybe there is something they haven´t told us that could explain why they made this decision
Customization has been a part of the Halo experience from the very beginning. For almost 20 years, there has been a system in place for said customization. It seemed to peak when we were still in Bungie days with Reach. It was near perfect.
You do not “develop” games by removing key aspects of said game series. You develop games by adding to them.
The only reason you are removing the existing color system is to milk money from gamers. This is unacceptable.
F2P MP has it upsides but leave the additional costs to F2P players. “Microtransactions” (5 dollars is not “micro”) do not belong in a full priced game even though you are providing a part of that game free to others. Paying customers should not have to pay for any customization.
To limit any content in a full priced game behind any paywall is a scummy move. We do not have GameStop where I live, so I cannot have red/gray armor? Are you serious?
There are 900 color combinations in Reach, do you value these color combinations each 5 dollars? Is the game actually worth 4500 dollars? This is a cruel joke and you are playing it on your most loyal fans.
Do not let 6 years of game development go to waste. If you go down this road of scummy microtransactions on your first party console seller, it will ruin Halo for good.

So 5 buck a pop is confirmed…Damn this is the worst run up to a supposed triple A launch title I have seen. Having enormous fun watching the trainwreck live. Really looking forward to ‘the story behind Infinite’ about the development hell and the forced monetization by the suits. Probably going to be more entertaining than the game.

It’s unbelievable. They postponed the game because it was not ready, but the system to fleece us is. Well, they won’t be getting my money as it stands. The armour coating is not a terrible idea, I’ll keep repeating that, but it could have been implemented in addition to our colour system. This is all about pay or grind imo, and it does not have to be. Many players will buy the cosmetics in addition to our base colour customisation.

If they gave us the ability to have our usual primary/secondary customization at the beginning, that would be cool. Then down the track as an option you could wear armor coatings which means you can also still customize your guy as you please if you choose to. Not only that but from what it looks like with the monster energy drink promotion, you’ll need to unlock coatings for ALL your weapons, vehicles, armor etc just to be able to coat everything the same. I’d prefer if once you had unlocked/bought the coating you could just apply it to anything you want rather than having to unlock/buy it multiple times just to be able to use it. 343 are taking advantage of us and don’t give two hoots about anyone in the Halo community.

Can we have a better system of forum posting? Just because a forum post mention coating it doesn’t mean the conversations are the same. I was just commenting on a forum post that had a different lens of discussing the coatings and how they should be implemented but it got locked and got referred to another known thread without a link to it. I assume it was this post since it’s discussing needing more information about Armor coating because they haven’t told us enough.
These are not the same conversation. It’s just reinforcing a culture of difficult conversations. Can we maybe bring in a sub topic feature in forum posts or something? We have multiple topics talking different things on the same overarching topic and this is the exact reason why it’s so hard to make any constructive conversations. It’s just so micro managed and feels more like a silencing than anything because none of what I contributed to the previous post applies to the idea that we need 343 to give more information.
So, you all think the Armor Coatings will be $5 across the board, or think the prices will fluctuate based on rarity?
Something like this is an unfortunately possible worst-case scenario:
- $1 for ‘Common’ - $3 for ‘Uncommon’ - $5 for ‘Rare’ - $7 for ‘Ultra Rate’ - $10 for 'Legendary’Also has me thinking, if 343i is perfectly okay with monetizing colors, what else are they going to put a price tag on? Do we know if armor is safe?

Looks like a realistic scenario to me. On the last question…hazard a guess my friend. Of course it’s not going to be safe.
Be a pretty safe bet they’re going to monetize all the things, so to speak. Even player emblems, which are going to be 2 dollars.

My fear is they will charge something per REQ and make it single use. Even $1 per Banshee Ultra and I would need a second job. If they do that I am out. I will only do campaign.

I was going to try Online. I do not want to support this though, so I am wavering.
Honestly I guess we just have to wait and see what 343 say about this whole mess - Honestly though I would much rather multiplayer be bundled with singleplayer like every other halo game instead of going F2P as it’ll lead to the same problems that CS:GO has after turning F2P.
I cannot see myself playing Halo: Infinite after something like this. I’ll keep my eye out for any news on a reversal of this decision, but I have nothing but a fool’s hope for that, given the rampant greed shown by companies in the past several years.

It’s all about greed imo, or it seems that way given what we’ve found out recently. I appreciate 343i are a company and they need to make money. They don’t need to be greedy about it though. I would wager if they had announced the armour coatings as additional cosmetics that we could customize there would have been no, or very little blow back.
In fact, I would bet the community would be singing their praises. Sure, have deals with Monster, Pepsi, whoever and not allow us change those coatings. Regular designs ? No, allow the community to have their individual look. Other than greed, I cannot see a valid reason for excluding our colour system. I hope they rethink this, but I won’t hold my breath.

For now, we may have to live with this decision by 343. Since the people that listen to the community’s feedback seem to have little to no influence on the developers.

No no don’t give them any ideas!
For real though, if solid purple is $5, there’s no way that the most complex and interesting designs are also gonna be $5. I’m sure you’re right unfortunately. Except maybe $5 is the bottom tier because what could be lower tier than a solid color? This is disgusting.
While there will definitely be some armor coatings that are exclusive to microtransactions or other promotions, I don’t think the $5 value associated with the Monarch armor coating means that it must be purchased. That’s the average retail value of the item, not the actual price.
If we use the H5 REQ system as an example, then a $5 average retail value could simply mean that it’s unlockable from gold packs – which are easily obtained via in-game currency. The $5 average retail value just means that if you were to spend money on microtransactions, you could expect to obtain a coating of this rarity for every $5 you spend. It doesn’t inherently mean that money has to be spent. By comparison, the average retail value of any “Ultra Rare” items in H5 is probably around that same price.
It seems to me like people are getting mad about this for no reason. The Monster Energy skins are probably going to be exclusive to the promotion, but I really don’t see that being the case for basic coatings like Monarch. The average retail value shouldn’t be taken as the literal price.

^ this all day long! It is something very major that people are over looking and is common in most of the posts related to the coloring/coatings.
