Most of the discussion around Halo Infinite is about its graphics, but what’s more concerning is the potential lack of a flighting program. Ever since the MCC debacle, 343 has stressed the importance of community input and beta testing. If they want to stand their ground and say that Halo Infinite will be a complete game by launch, then why backtrack on the flighting program? Is it actually critical to the game’s development or is it not? You can’t have it both ways.
If a flighting program is truly important to the game’s success, then that alone is a valid reason to delay Halo Infinite’s release. The comments so far suggest that we will again be treated like guinea pigs and beta test the game AFTER launch. We can’t afford another Halo 5/MCC situation because not everyone will stick around to see Halo Infinite slowly improve. I really expected 343/Microsoft to learn for real this time, not just offer empty words. But I guess some things never change.
I will chime in and say that yeah it’s pretty concerning. 343 recently said (or Chris Lee technically but on behalf of the studio) that they’re not exactly where they’d like to be in terms of public flighting, but they’ve apparently met with higher up community members on multiple facets of the game so it’s not like there’s 0% community input. They did say they’re still working on trying to get flighting out before launch though.
READ THIS:
I don’t agree with the “lesson learned” narrative that is trumped around on this forum. It’s quite ridiculous actually. It’s often used to promote opinions (basically “343 stupid because game not how I want”), and often times there are other factors at play (343 knows they need community input, but apparently current circumstances have slowed flighting plans). So it’s not like “they’re stupid, when will they learn”. They know.
In any case, full scale community input is going to be a mixed bag anyway. MCC flighting is more based on finding bugs since those are finished games, but Infinite flighting could be based on things that are more subject to change than already finished games. And we all know how that would go- one side of the community loves the grappling hook and the other side doesn’t, one side of the community is satisfied with the toned down sprint the other side isn’t, so on and so forth. Democracy has it’s downsides. Not everyone will get what they want, something a number of people on this forum do not understand.

It’s really sad I had high hopes they learned their lesson

They have already said this wasn’t the plan. No lesson to learn when they already planning what people wanted. It’s as if something came up that took attention away from it and threw plans into jeopardy and has caused less production… something on the global scale perhaps.
Based on previous replies, fligths are open for few faboys only thanks to COVID, i don´t expect a beta at this point, but with some luck we may get a decent gameplay showcase before release.

It is. This game has the set up to be the biggest flop in history if they are not careful.

I like to think maybe some of us are just being overcritical, but I’ve lost faith in 343

They’ve had 5 years that excuse only works for post production. And I’m sure these decisions should’ve been long before that. Unfortunately 343 seems behind so I hope they can sort things out.

I understand, but as I was telling one of my friends, unlike MCC, Halo Infinite is not an existing platform that can be flighted from. Seeing as this pandemic all started like half a year a ago and we don’t know the ratio of working on game to working on engine, this may very well have greatly affected what they planned.
I just don’t like how feedback is limited to a select few “upper” community members.
Honestly, I just want to know that my input is as valuable as any other fan of the franchise. And I can’t share it if I’m not given the opportunity to.

Those upper community members are also very likely to be yes men. If I remember right all the tubers that got invited to the studio before H5 launched were endlessly hyping and promoting it beforehand. I also don’t recall anyone from their pro team ever criticizing any design decisions, so they’re most likely there to just be another promotional tool.

I don’t know if I agree with that. They may very well have enjoyed what they played. My primary point is that I hope 343i are able to give anyone interested the opportunity to experience the game and provide their own feedback prior to its release.
Heck, even after the gameplay reveal select streamers were given the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts with the developers. Why didn’t 343i put those answered inquires into a blog post and create a forum thread for anyone interested in asking them questions? They could pick ones they felt comfortable answering in a follow-up blog.
I feel like there’s an unnecessary hierarchy being catered to in how they’re handling these matters. It’s really the simple things that I feel they miss on sometimes.
Everyone is already so critical. Chill out guys. It’s still not finished yet. If it turns out terrible, you guys can trash it. But it’s not even done yet. We’ll just see how it goes as we get closer to launch.
This really looks like a repeat of Halo 5, a beta which is coming out so close to launch (if at all) that it will be far to late to make any meaningful changes.
if they dont show or disscuss more of halo infinite thatd be a silly move. I just hope they have a plan to interact with us more. I mean since the release of 5 there has been a bit more interactivity with the fans right?

I precisely believe that covid HAS impacted development. That’s why it’s concerning that the game won’t be delayed. Without a beta, the final release IS the beta, only you’ll pay $60 for it.

The pro team were very critical of the enhanced mobility and sprinting being forced into competitive play. 343 largely ignored that feedback though.
