We never felt mislead by bungie

Lack of communication and back tracking, actual makes me not want to play halo infinite, I don’t want that same disappointment as halo 5

the e3 “gameplay” reveal trailer for halo 2 begs to differ

We live in the Social Media Era, Millions of Halo fans now have a Platform in the Public Square instantly. YIKES. I think they have been communicating admirably? although we don’t like recent news at least they told us? haha. Imagine the fallout dropping Infinite Dec 8th without forge and COOP and not Telling us? At least now the tears will be almost dry by December :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, I haven’t been fond of the direction 343 have taken in previous titles I have played a Tone of MCC and very little H4/H5 so am definitely a Bungie Fan Boy. I really did enjoy the flight though and I felt it was a huge improvement. The way I see it, if they stuff this one up at least I can return to MCC, but I have no doubts you will be playing Infinite day one… as will I

i think i do prefer this marketing over five though, no hunt the truth, no hunt the chief, no expectation of story. nothing at all really, we know so little compared to how disappointed we where with five. there also wasn’t a whole trilogy of forerunner books leading up to a one off character.

so i dunno, i feel maybe under led, I’m not expecting this whole, two sided conflict with our main guy on the run from the UNSC, only to be met with three versus twelve split.

i don’t remember hearing that firefight and forge wasn’t going to be in five before it was released, feel like we just kinda opened it and where like, welp lets see this campaign.

its at least nice knowing what we already knew, microsoft can’t make something functional without working on it for 10 years than discarding it for another underdeveloped project to try and sucker more people into buying their crap.

i mean like, we know mostly what this game doesn’t have, and we have very little expectation of what it should have, like a compelling story we read a bunch of books for, or active and enjoyable multiplayer, or fun PvE modes.

ya know, I’m not gonna be disappointed if there’s some poorly choreographed fight scene between a super soldier and a forerunner carapace, cause I’m not expecting it to happen, at all. its not like I’ve read multiple books leading to some conclusion like that, pfff, right guys?

They’ve definitely been communicating to the community, a lot. They’re working… hard. More information will be coming in due time.

I think they’re trying really hard, and doing really well in a difficult subject. But the sphere of customer interaction is much, much larger than when Bungie was Haloing.

The issue they have is that bad news is always going to combine with anything small and fuel paranoia unless you remove the opportunity by being very, very clear and informative. Take for instance the progression of season passes, coming as the news did, immediately after the co-op/forge announcement, which wasn’t great news for many, then combined with the ambiguity of the information in the tweet.

Dropping a tweet on a matter is fine, if the subject doesn’t require elaboration. But progression is a lot more nuanced than a tweet can handle.

If they were to write a detailed blog on progression, people would better understand why the system they have in mind makes sense, even if I personally feel that matches could reward xp without it breaking things.

All they needed for that not to be the negative thing it was, was to explain how and why progression works the way it does. There is a logic to it, but expecting people to get it without explanation is probably optimistic, because people see the headline and don’t always go deeper.

Of course, in 343s defence, it’s also worth noting that the loudest voices aren’t always the most numerous.

Sure. There are a good number of people showing their displeasure, but I don’t think they represent the whole fanbase. From what I’ve seen, they’re a loud minority, so they sound like a lot, but that’s all.

That’s not to say they’re not equally as important as any other fan, although, they might carry more weight if some of them could mellow out a bit and be less confrontational/seemingly interested in accusing 343 of being the devil.

Honestly, it’s a brutal, no-win job and I honestly think they’re trying their best. Missteps will happen. Clarity and removing the oxygen of supposition, is key: give people facts, eliminate the opportunity for people to fill in blanks, as much as you can.

But they’re doing as well as the best examples I’ve seen in the industry. Christ. While I found the Gamescom segment a bit empty and unexciting, I’ll take it’s honesty over Bungie’s Destiny Gamescom segment any day. Watching that was painful: such blatantly scripted manipulative marketing guff that I tuned out before the first pair of speakers was done. I bet there are a few thousand people, or more, high as kites, certain that Destiny is going to take them away to a sunlit nirvana forevermore.

That kind of thing is just… Ugh. Gross. Be real. Be honest. Let the game speak for itself when it can. Don’t try and tell me it’s going to bring peace to the middle East…

So far, 343 have been very reasonable and sensible. I appreciate it.

QFT. First thing that came to mind as I read the thread title.

Lack of communication? You ever saw these long -Yoink- monthly blog posts? How much communication do you need? Should 343 live stream from their workplace 24/7? Just because you don’t like what they are communicating doesn’t mean their is a lack of it or that they are hiding something. Jesus the entitlement is real

There’s no doubt there, Halo 2 is excellent imo. But, we were misled. The post title reads we never felt misled by Bungle, the Halo 2 reveal proves we were.

i should’ve elaborated further, it was a case in which the misleading was justified in the end
edit: for me at least

While I agree 343i has not handled this launch all that well as was the case with 5 Guardians.
That titles is hilarious.
Bungie have mislead the halo community on plenty of occasions.
Ce changed genre and platform, enraged many.
Halo 2 had the most infamous E3 showing of all time.
3, “recon”, reach all had their own issues leading up to launch.

The only reason you feel mislead is by virtue of the fact 343i have been communicating.
Monthly. And consistently so.

Lack of communication?
343i have given monthly updates on the game since December 2020, and even some follow up videos to answer peoples questions. They’ve given us a release date, we’ve played part of the game and they’ve been pretty transparent about what you’re getting at launch too.
In addition to that many of the devs & community team have cleared up questions people have on Twitter.
They’ve also made clear we won’t see any more of the campaign until closer to launch.

Information needs to be drip fed, they can’t just tell us everything about the game up front and have nothing left for later.

The Bungie era was very different to what we’re in now. The games are to a much grander scale and Halo has a lot of pressure on it as a title.
Let’s not forget Bungie’s infamous Halo 2 demo…that was misleading no? Considering it wasn’t even in the game or barely resembled the final product because the game got remade in a matter of months.
Not to mention the numerous delays to the game too. The massive crunch they had to do to get it out the door.

But I guess that doesn’t suit your narrative though does it?

Is there a real lack of communication or are you just upset that you’re not getting the game you wanted or information every 2 minutes?

Good God. Stop the misplaced nostalgia. ‘Bungie’ and ‘343 Industries’ are just the company names. What matters is the PEOPLE that work on the games. And a lot of people that worked on Halo back in the Bungie days now work for 343i. Including Joe Staten!!!

And if you think Bungie is so great, why don’t you look at how Destiny was handled the past 7 years? Go check the forums! Wacky sandbox changes. Overpowered and underpowered subclasses that are supposed to fight each other. Overpowered rare weapons that only a minority own that can ruin PvP for months without getting nerfed. Creating insanely overpowered subclasses hidden behind a paywall, just so people feel pretty much forced to buy expanstions. Expansions that are getting sunset! Weapons that people grinded f*cking months for that got sunset! Not to mention year 1 of Destiny 2. The worst Destiny year that came from the “brilliant” mind of Luke Smith. A dude that also worked on your holy pre-343i Halo games. Holy crap I can go on.

Stop being a “back in my time, this and this and this was better” kinda person.

343 have give monthly updates yes but mostly multiplayer related… theres so many fans with so many questions and concerns about campaign and ever since there poor reveal of the campaign gameplay back in 2020 and all the backlash it got they haven’t bothered to show us any gameplay or talk more about the campaign features missions etc they have just kept it radio silent apart from releasing bad news that the campaign wont come with co op at launch which doesnt bother me personally but i can see why some people are upset about this as co op is ome of the things that made bungies halo games so good! And the fact 343 got so much backlash for no split screen co op at all in halo 5 its a shock to seem them even have the balls to release there next halo game without co op till months down the line! Its no good them waiting closer to launch to reveal campaign gameplay cause then if the fams do have issues with it is going to be to late for 343 to do anything about it! I think this is there way of saying this is the campaign now 1 or 2 maybe 3 month from laumch and if you fans dont like it tough thats the finished product and we arent changing it its to late now anyway! I worry that 343 are more concerned about multiplayer and bringing new fans into that and are not going to be putting enough effort into the campaign and story amd of its another mess like halo 5 the long time fans who play campaign will not forgive them again!

I’m assuming you weren’t around for Halo 2 lol

you must be new around here lol. WTF ? thats like sooo not ture lol. I been around halo ce and on bungie forums b4 halo was even a thing. There were so many mislead things told to the community back then it was insane.
The biggest thing was halo 2 E3 showing, i mean what they showed us was not even in the game, none of it infact, it was all a lie. The engine wasn’t even what we got. This was the same year the game was releasing as well. They had to re do the entire thing because they could’t do it period!.
Halo 2 they promised the BR was fine at launch dispite so many complaints, for ages they said flat out it was fine, then they patched it at later date. Same goes with duel wielding. Then there halo reach with so many un happy people at the time about the balance of the game , most of it never got fixed.

Look i love bungie for giving us great halo games and starting a franchise i love to this day, but they were far from perfect.

Oh wait. You’re serious…

Halo 2 was a different ball game, the fact they even had a game after the engine reveal, they went back to ce engine and ported everything over, they did the best they could, xbox could not handle the new engine so they had to backtrack years work, they still pull of Halo 2, 343 has been given -Yoink- ton of time and no massive reworks but some how they not got core feature done nor showing any campaign its worrying

It just sucks that after an entire year of delay, we’re still getting only a fraction of a complete product. It really begs the question of just what in the heck were they going to release last year? There’s obviously a big disconnect between the developers on the ground and the suits in management. I’m off the hype train now, and am being more realistic and cautious in my expectations. And right now I think Infinite will ultimately be an amazing game…Two years after launch. Its just…disappointing. And only because as a guy whose played Halo for 20 years, I just want to see it blow up and become again what it was when I was a kid, with a whole new generation of Halo fans.
