we need to hear some things from 343

currently halo, as many of you well know, is in a precarious position. life and death (lol) loom in the not so distant future. will our newly restored halo franchise see overwhelming success, or will it be lackluster and mediocre like halo reach is for many players?

many halo fans are worried, and with good reason too.

343 seems to want to improve halo, but as far as getting done what the community deems important, they seem to be lacking. now, reach isnt exactly the best game to instil hope into players, as a lot of halo fans straight up DONT EVEN PLAY REACH AT ALL because its so trashy, or only play it because even though its terrible in their opinions, its still the best game out there, so they basically settle for mediocre.

i’d like to see some SERIOUS change in how 343 works with the community. saying ‘were listening’ is all fine and dandy, but what if 343 are only ‘listening’, and not hearing? listening is one thing, but if 343 isnt actually taking from the intelligent, thoughtful, straight forward, and logical posts on the forums in favor of the nigh infinite typical RDF ‘REACH IS FINE. ADAPT’ posts, im afraid we’ll see another Reach repeat.

ideally i’d like to see the following things happen moving forward:

1.) 343 acknowledges that reach was lackluster, and that they learned from the mistakes of reach.

2.) 343 acknowledges that reach was specifically catered to the casual player, completely alienating the competitive-minded-powergamers in the process.

3.) 343 acknowledges that RANDOM and INCONSISTENT mechanics are the bane of halo. they always have been, and they always will be until they are EXPUNGED from our series and treated like the PLAGUE that they are. they help no one, they serve no purpose, and they have no place in halo. this is everything from random bloom (letting someone who mashes his R trigger win against someone pacing AKA playing as intended even 1% of the time is 1% of the time the game FAILS BOTH PLAYERS), to bullet spread (making people who aim on target miss sometimes, and making people who miss get hits sometimes), and everything in between.

4.) 343 acknowledges that pairing like-skilled players is IMPORTANT. i could give a YOINK! less what kind of ‘ranking’ system 343 uses to pair like-skilled players, so long as it ACTUALLY HAPPENS. ‘trueskill’ in reach is closer to a MYTH than ‘fact’. you can present all the ‘official statements’ you want on the issue, but IN ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME for an extended period of time, its pretty BLATANTLY OBVIOUS the trueskill in reach flat out doesnt work.

these are 4 pretty reasonable requests for things that 343 could acknowledge. who agrees?

You make good points, but Halo 4 has been in development for 3 years, and why is halo on the verge of death? Sure you may think Reach was a bad game, but does ONE bad game mean it’s almost the end of Halo?

Still, like I said you make good points.

Reach was fine aside from armor lock and bloom that’s much too high for a -Yoinking!- genetically enhanced soldier in a super suit…the fact that there is recoil makes no sense. But I would like to hear from them, been in the dark for too long! I just made a topic on this a few hours ago lol

Excellent points, I definitely agree with you. Hopefully, four years of development will do wonders for Halo 4.

I was surprised that I agree with most of this. I think it’d take some balls, but coming forward and saying “We know Reach wasn’t up to par, and we promise to do better than that with Halo 4” would win them some MASSIVE respect points from the community.

Highly doubt they’ll ever do it, but one can hope!

They wouldn’t do it, because it would kinda be disrespecting Bungie. How would you feel if another company that USED TO WORK WITH YOURS just came out and said, even if it was for the community, “Yea, this game is garbage.” 343 would earn serious DISRESPECT points from Bungie.

Whilst I agree with this last point, they are not disrespecting bungie. Every game must learn from the past and Bungie know that Reach wasn’t perfect, so saying we must learn from the mistakes from the past is logical. Saying they wouldn’t is illogical.
