There is a teamwork and skill aspect to it. Many people have plenty of strategies with dropping the flag, such as passing it to another teammate, throwing it to a place you couldn’t normally get to with the flag and have someone else catch it. There are many many many choices you have when you drop the flag. By taking away the ability to drop the flag, you are limiting the flag carrier’s choices down to one thing when trying to capture the flag, shooting his way through the opposing team. Let’s not forget about flag running. Flag running gave the flag carrier another choice, to sacrifice stealth for speed.
Seriously, I urge 343i to enable dropping the flag again. You’ve changed enough already just stop it. This is just as stupid as X to nade on bumper jumper. You fixed that now fix this.

But if you could drop the flag then there would be no reason to use the flagnum provided. Personally, I’d rather choose to become the flag carrier knowing it’s a do-or-die move, rather than it be auto-pickup…
Make it toggleable. A certain group of people(cough cough me cough) are working on creating an interesting gametype, but to do so we need the inablity to drop the flag.
The Flagnum is just making Capture the Flag a totally linear experience with no difference between strategies, since there are no strategies anymore. No more amazing pulls, no more 7 second flag caps, just a boring escort mission 3 times a game.

I like that you have to commit to the flag. So I guess your thread title is invalid cause it is no longer we.
Honestly, I don’t care. I think that the flagnum is a good replacement for dropping the flag. But maybe since a lot of people want to be able to drop the flag, maybe they could move it to the weapon switch button, since you can’t switch weapons anyways when carrying the flag.

It was an option in Reach. What is wrong with exploits anyway? How many competitive games rely on little exploits like that to increase the depth and skill gap of the game?

Saying it takes skill is like saying using nothing but the Plasma Repeater takes skill; once you are pitting competent players against other players who know what they are doing, it will end in disaster.

I don’t need to play it to see people already accidentally walking over the flag and being stuck with it, or all the strategies that are thrown out the window by being unable to drop the flag.

You have obviously not been reading the replies to this thread. Bob actually hit the nail on the head.
How bout throwing the flag to a team mate. Just kidding. I don’t know I kinda have mixed feelings about this. I like it and I don’t. They’re changing stuff up. But without us …most of us…being able to play it, we can’t really judge it. And cab someone clarify if that’d the way its going to stay? Did 343 confirm it already?
