We Need teh Spectatormodez

Yes I know they sound like -Yoinks!- at first but they have a point

It isn’t going to happen though.

no i dont think we need spectator mode

That is totally true. I agree, when my friends do 1v1’s or something of that sort, i want to be able to watch the game and not stay in it.

Maybe 343i will patch it in if enough hell is raised over it.

They’re looking into options.

> They’re looking into options.

YES yes!

They wont introduce spectator mode because it uses up too much bandwidth and your not even fighting. While a cool idea, its inneficient

Why isn’t this already in?! Hell the original Counterstrike had it.

> no i dont think we need spectator mode

who is we?

speak for yourself, not for others.

Passive agressive hate on the Competitive community? Doesnt get reported or flagged by the mods of course.

Apologies for double post, here is a comment I made about the issue earlier…

Throughout the build for Halo 4, 343 have maintained a stance of “designing with competitive in mind”, and showing a keen interest in MLG, their views, and again, stressing how important the competitve scene is. They are the developer, they are the key to how successful competitive Halo can be.

Now, to even be considered a competitive/esports title, the minimum req. should be a spectator mode. This allows production costs to be 7/8 of the cost that it took to produce old halo games on stream. It allows online content to be far more easier to produce. Without a spectator mode, Halo wont even get a look in to leagues such as IPL or even MLG, why would they, when other team games such as LOL, Gears and COD are far easier to produce?

All the above also applies to Youtubers, and Machinima who also produce similar content.

Gears had a spectator mode patched in, without the excuse of bandwidth being used. It is certainly possible.

The only saving grace is the inclusion of a twitch app for the XBOX…

If 343 were to truly support competitve play, you could access tournament streams/player streams via a MM menu, think of it as another playlist, where you freely choose who you want to watch that is playing Halo 4, this could create that link between the veteran spectator, and the curious casual who is unsure how to make the first step into watching/playing Halo at the highest level.

Thoughts?

Why in the world would we need a spectator mode? First off, they’re huge bandwidth hogs, and I’d rather have a good connection to fight in rather than give up some speed so that a random guy can watch my game.

Second, who is really going to go and watch a game? Honestly, the only time a spectator mode would come in handy is for MLG, but they can really just do without.

“bandwidth being used” is not an excuse, it’s a fact. If you want to watch a pro play, go to his stream on Twitch.

> Why isn’t this already in?! Hell the original Counterstrike had it.

Too bad this is halo.

Ew what a horrible reply that is.

Once again for the “bandwidth” excuse, it will of course not be in MM, a custom game option is all thats needed. Specator mode is present in other FPS. Even Gears of War, with a smaller community, has a 100X more chance of being picked up by leagues because its easy to stream. You may say “I dont care about competitive”, for 343, it promotes longevity and is essentially advertising for Halo. And if it doesnt affect you, why dismiss somebody else’s experience?

Specator has always been in Halo, but was never given to the user. There were glitches in H2/3, possibly Reach as well, where you could glitch as the white team, and fly through every 1st person view.

“Second, who is really going to go and watch a game? Honestly, the only time a spectator mode would come in handy is for MLG, but they can really just do without.”

They dont do fine without it, it costs MLG a fortune to run Halo, its why other leagues dont pick up the game as they can afford/be bothered with the work it takes to produce a quality stream. It stops local LANS being able to be produced at a high quality. Online leagues cant be presented properly either as there is no way to view them, apart from Twitch, but thats only for 1 POV, and not all Pros stream anyway, and in an online competition, streaming would affect their connection too.

Thought I would add that as it is relevant

Can you explain why it would be bad to have spectator mode in CUSTOM GAMES?

Um, this might seem like a silly question but isn’t spectator mode just a regression on the theater? You can’t pause it, rewind, make clips, share it with anyone (without theater), or do anything but sit and stare at a live game.

Why do you people want this?
