When was the last time you truly enjoyed yourself playing with teammates in a falcon, scorpion, or hornet?
The answer is you haven’t, because new movement mechanics disallow this altogether. Vehicles haven’t been what they used to be in older games, and I’d be more than happy if there were more vehicles that were team oriented such as the ones I mentioned above. Even the elephant is viable. It would even be nice if we had the option to sit on the scorpion sides again.
It’s also very easy to take down a Mantis or scorpion in H5 because it takes no effort to sprint towards it and grenade it in the back after boarding it. It’s too easy.
We need team vehicles, and we need current movement mechanics to not destroy the viability of current vehicles.
Edit: Halo: Custom Edition was really great for team vehicles, like the longsword, phantom, spirit, and pelican were flyable and viable for holding many people. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
I don’t play multiplayer much, so forgive me if this is already a thing but… I would love to have the Scarab and Mammoth as playable vehicles. Perhaps there’s opportunity there for a big team battle where the two function as mobile bases in a massive canyon. Each can carry smaller vehicles like Warthogs, Ghosts, Scorpions, Wraiths, Hornets, Banshees, etc. Then your team can use all of these vehicles to play an epic CTF game

Seems like a fun concept. I’d be down for that as wellas other game modes with big vehicles and massive canvasses.
Also side note, the mammoth would destroy a scarab, have you seen the massive cannon on that thing?

> Yeah the advanced movement kinda messed up vehicle play, part of the reason why H5 BTB sucks.
Also why vehicles get hijacked by any random person who spawned in as opposed to older halos where you needed a power weapon. Vehicles need a huge buff or maps/ players need a nerf.

I agree that the mini-MAC is impressive, but it requires a target designator to be used. Also, the Mammoth suffers from the same fatal flaw as any other un-shielded UNSC vehicle when facing plasma. Any direct hit would absolutely melt straight through the Mammoth. It also handles like an apartment building, whereas a Scarab uses far superior leg maneuvering, meaning it can turn on a dime. Still, for game play, it would be pretty easy to balance the two vehicles and make them evenly matched.

Older Halos? You mean Halo CE… Every Halo game since Halo 2 has had hijacking

Hijacking in h5 is 9/10 times an instant kill to any vehicle. Older halos had you punch first before you could plant a grenade. On top of that the ability to hijack in halo 5 is insanely easy due to spartan mobility, speed boost, active camo, and the fact that all vechiles are restricted into narrow lanes on every map. What do vehicles have to counter this?
Although movement mechanics have made vehicles weaker, they’re not the only reason why you don’t see vehicular combat much anymore. 343 has been nerfing vehicles over time. Nowadays it’s super easy to headshot a Warthog gunner, Mantis mechs can be hijacked from the front, and tanks are slower in every way. Slower movement, and slower projectile speed. Not to mention that nearly all light vehicles, Warthogs, Ghosts, etc. are made out of paper and get wrecked by any BR firing squad.

Halo 2, 3, and Reach allow you to plant immediately, you do not have to punch. Hijacking was a 9/10 times instant kill in every Halo game that it has been included in. The difference is that the difficulty of boarding has decreased in Halo 5. This is a double edged sword, as while it is reasonably easier in Halo 5 to board a vehicle than past Halo games, it was extremely difficult (sometimes nearly impossible) to board heavy vehicles in past Halo games.
Part of the problem is map design, as you have hinted. Larger game modes have much busier maps that are far more restrictive to vehicles than past Halo games. I think this has a much larger role than the increased mobility in the problem. As Halo 4 was nearly as difficult to board as 2, 3, or Reach, but the BTB maps in 4 weren’t as crowded as 5

I think this was the intent. Lumbering around in a scorpion…that’s pretty powerful. I’d actually say it’s much harder to take down a skilled Ghost than someone in a tank
I’m probably biased because I suck at most vehicles, and always seemed to end up in BTB matches where my team avoided vehicles like me so we would get stomped on, but I think Halo 5 was almost a perfect balance for vehicles.

In older games like Halo Reach, BTB matches were often determined by whoever controlled the vehicles. One of the flaws in those games, I believe, is that the only real counter to vehicles were other vehicles. Heavy weapons would have been able to counter them, but they were so rare and spawned too infrequently. So losing your vehicles first, while the other team still had theirs, was synonymous with losing.
343 took steps to solve this problem in the form of ordinance and REQs, but they took it a little too far by nerfing vehicles altogether. Halo 5’s vehicles have fatal flaws, like how Warthog gunners are super easy to kill and the Scorpion is so slow that using one puts you at a disadvantage; hopping into one is like putting a ball and chain on your ankle, with a big red arrow over your head. Any player can run up to you and blow up your entire tank with just one grenade.
The only vehicles that are reasonably competitive in Halo 5 are the Mantis mechs and the aerial vehicles. The Mantis has shielding and superior maneuverability compared to other ground vehicles, and aerial vehicles (Banshee, Wasp, Phaeton) have it even better than that. Being able to fly gives them a huge range of motion, and a lot more ways to approach a battle.

I’d say this is more of an issue for WZ where you can just spawn something like a laser any time anyone brings out a tank. Infantry are so much more mobile now that vehicles don’t stand a chance for the most part unless one team has complete air superiority.
I’d love to have more team based vehicles, especially the falcon. if we’re throwing ideas out there, how about the mastodon? personally I’d like having some more transport vehicles but not the cheap, easy to kill things that only hold 2 people like scout hogs and mongeese. mastodon feels right for this. holds a number of troops, I assume has more armor that a warthog, and has it’s own turret. as far as the movement mechanics go, the sprint does bother me all to much, and honestly I think wouldn’t be as big of a deal to vehicles if the maps were more open so you don’t have to worry about some dude hopping around every corner onto your tank. best examples of this are escape from arc, apex 7, and half of march on storm break in warzone. might also help if the tank had the option of shooting the boarder off by backing into a wall and shooting it which apparently doesn’t work in halo 5. it feels like every variable is tipped in the boarders favor.

bold of you to assume I don’t enjoy loading up a small squad of warthogs with friends in warzone and charging the enemy base while blasting the rvb warthog theme.

I could go for a warzone map where the bases are mammoths.

I realize it is a bold statement, but that was the point. Sure, you could’ve enjoyed maybe a couple hog runs in H5, but they haven’t been nearly as relevant or apparent as it used to be.
