Yea, I know. Another thread about in game rank! Before I get started please forgive me and my people for being awfully repetitive about this topic, understand that this is a crucial element for a huge population of halo players, hence why so many people beg for the revival of some sort of visible in game rank. If you don’t share this view point, please feel free to leave your opinion on it, be constructive & not disruptive. : )
First off I absolutely disagree with 343i’s decision to make CSR available only in waypoint.(read carefully what 343i has said about CSR) This does nothing to solve the issue of no real in game rank, and is no different from all the other 3rd party websites that track your stats.
I’m all for an IN GAME rank that is visible to other players playing RANKED playlists only. This means the number doesn’t need to be tattooed to people’s gamer tags outside of social/non ranked playlists. That way casuals can enjoy a stress free environment without constantly competing for rank and the competitive folk can enjoy fighting through the ranks.
A visible rank(1-50) gave people the incentive to constantly achieve and strive for a higher goal. It’s the addictive factor that comes with ranked gaming, you always want to gauge your progress in real time and compare yourself with friends and others. It’s the reward you get for winning. Sure it gives people bragging rights but what competitive sport doesn’t have this? It’s like saying we shouldn’t give out medals to Olympic winners because it may promote excessive bragging.-whadefuh? Also, a progressions system that allows anyone to inevitably hit max rank does not belong in any ranked playlist.
Simply put no visible rank severely decreases competitive players from even playing. Why take this away from us? The positives of a visible rank in game outweigh the negatives by far.
Seriously, shouldn’t reach be a perfect example of what NOT to do? As if it wasn’t bad enough that competitive player’s had only ONE ranked playlist (arena) out of the total 18 playlists which were all social by the way (last time I counted). To top it off arena was poorly structured and never taken care of mainly because the people that actually play ranked were not given any voice or listened to, and instead the casual crowd was the ONLY crowd the game was catered to.
Please 343i, give us, the competitive gamers what we want. Don’t toss in some poorly thought out ranked playlist like reach did. If you want to make a successful rank system for halo 4, try actually paying more attention to the competitive players on this forum, and give them a voice, perhaps a sticky topic asking all the competitive players what they want? Oh, and no offense, some conformation of our existence would nice as well, often times it feels like a one way discussion.
Thanks for the read! Keep this thread alive if you agree
its pretty easy to see what they are doing. They dont like Ranks because 343 is made of a bunch of causals and COD fans. Frankie is the biggest. so what do they do? they add a ranking system that they know will fail. Now you ask how do you know it will fail? simple Look at GOW. who plays the rank playlist? no one because its the same as the social but harder to get a game on. the same will happen to H4 there wont be a difference between the rank and social playlist but that it will be harder to find a game because there wont be JIP.
I am mostly a Spops player, but I agree and have agreed with this for quite sometime now. They need all the help they can get right now with keeping people around.

I agree, as long as i can remember everyone wanted the 1-50 system back since the beginning of reach. Its probably the easiest and most obvious way to get a huge population back to playing halo, and actually keeping them there.
I just don’t understand some of 343’s decisions. Its like they live in a closed bubble when it comes to this exact topic. This is soooo obvious! Its like their fighting to steal the COD crowd but instead they’re slowly pushing the HALO crowd away by gutting some of the fundamental aspects that made halo THE game to play. I’m not saying this game is dead or bad, but it wasn’t broken, and they took out things that just worked… not just the rank. Aside from that h4 is a step up from reach imo, i hope they continue to work on things like this.

doesnt 343 have some key dev’s from the early halo days? i thought that would help keep some of the goodies from past halos… Honestly i really think that they just don’t know how many people want some sort of 1-50 type skill rank to be visible again. I mean, c’mon, if they did they would of put it in by now right?? right!??
Seriously, i hope that they do something, i cant imagine how many people will be let down yet again if this gets screwed up.

Probably because half their team is consisted of Force Colonels and Staff Captains. Trollolol
I am done with halo 4, there is nothing to strive for. I dont care about dressing up my spartan with armor. I want a competitive system, something where my team has something on the line, something to lose. Just like halo 2 and halo 3. I was thinking about selling this game and picking up black ops for league play and game battles. And after hearing about the playlist rotation its become final. This game is being taken in the completely wrong direction, just as reach was. Its very sad to see 2 halos fail so miserably in online multiplier in a row. $60 is alot for a game that has no replay value.
Whether or not the 1-50 eventually becomes visible, it will never be the same because it is not simply based off of Win/Loss like in prior Halo games, it is based off of your performance all around similar to the way Arena was.
They may as well just leave everything as is. Getting real tired of every game changing the ranking system after release.

They only changed the ranking system once, and that was from h2 & h3 (same system) to arena in reach, which got practically no support from the community and dev’s. All you had to do is play 5 games a day and your rank only updated once daily? That makes people play less to get a rank, not more! not to mention there was only one playlist!
At this point it doesn’t really matter how exactly it calculates your rank behind the scenes. People need to have more incentive to play other than the game just being fun. That’s why unlockables such as, armor, weapons, skins, load outs, specializations and etc exist. However these things i just mentioned cater to the casual crowd. The competitive crowd wants a visible rank in which they can gauge their progress and they still don’t have one!
Its a no brainier, but well just have to wait and see.
Halo 3’s gameplay was a lot better than Reach’s.
Halo 3’s ranking system was a lot better than Reach’s.
But say you put the Reach ranking system into halo 3, and insert the halo 3 ranking system into halo reach. Wouldn’t you now play reach more? Because there’s now something to play for?
Halo 3’s ranking system wasn’t perfect, but it was the closest they’ve ever come.
On one hand, you had ranked, where you would only play with friends on your team that you thought could help you win. If you win, your rank (sometimes) and exp goes up.
On the other hand, you have social, which you could play with anyone, even if theyre not good, because there’s nothing to lose. But you could GAIN exp, which was necessary for ranking up. You need rank AND exp. Genius right?
Now, in halo 4, you only need exp. Bleh…
CSR will fail if it is only viewable in waypoint. Additionally, it will fail if it is calculated like reach’s arena was. You need it based on team performance, not individual. The stats never tell the whole story.
I would like some type of effective competitive system back. I played about 5 games of BTB and it’s just too… easy. Pathetically easy. When is this supposed to get hard?

Hopefully they nail whatever algorithm thing they’re working on right now which will be CSR, but they NEED to at least make it visible in game rather than only on eaypoint.
