We need more variety, otherwise Halo 5 will die

We really need some more variety in Halo 5 multiplayer. Getting stuck playing 10 slayer games in a row on similar maps in Team Arena, or stuck playing Raid on Apex 7 for 3 hours in Warzone, wasting boost after boost as you get caught in losing teams, make for a less than satisfactory gaming session. Halo 5 is by far the best halo game mechanically, and its UI and matchmaking have potential, but I feel that removing the social aspect of the lobby, especially the veto (vote for map/game mode), has had a seriously negative effect on the game. In times like these where Halo is less and less popular, and isn’t selling as well, it would be best to return some of the fan favorites in a patch so that no more players get alienated through boring or repetitive play.
I also feel that any future maps that come out need to be less formulaic than the current roster. I think a return to traditional Halo map styles would be great, but without any more “reimagined” or “revamped” versions of decade old maps. Make something new, don’t bother with the forge community, just look at what was popular from before and take inspiration and then innovate.

I have a feeling this is a “rebuild” for 343 since it’s their first launch of an original game for the Xbox One.
There will be more in Halo 6, but I feel like Halo 5 is a more “feeling out” phase.
Don’t expect what we had in Halo 4 or previous games, stop being so entitled to everything.

How about more play lists and game modes? They already have a few that they use for the weekend. Why not make some/all of them permanent seeing as that’s one of the biggest issues with the game right now.

like I said, because this may be a rebuild where they are feeling out things.
See what works and what doesnt.

But again, they already have game modes/play lists available and working right now that they choose to only make available for the weekend. Seeing as one of the major complaints is the lack of game modes/playlists, again, why not make some those permanent? Has nothing to do with how familiar they are with e xbox one.

because 343 is feeling out things. They’re pushing Warzone hard to the masses and promoting Breakout as eSports. They want these playlists to have a strong player base before adding anything new in Halo 6, which may explain why certain playlists are only up for weekends such as doubles or social gametypes.

I’m sorry but hedging like that isn’t great considering the development cycle of Halo games. These aren’t annual, incremental games like other shooters. They tend to take 2-4 years to make, and I have a feeling that Halo 5 may have been rushed to release. So saying that they are just “feeling out” the bugs, is a bit of a pisstake for those of us who want to be able to get a couple years of play out of this game without it ruining Halo for us. Halo 3 got years and years of gameplay for me, and was rarely repetitive. 343i’s approach of map remixes and community built half–Yoinked!- maps (I may be being a bit mean, as they are fun- just not up to scratch compared to Halo 3) is not working for the community. I know we are getting free content, but at the same point, considering the extra revenue from REQs and eSports revival, you would think they could put out a proper map DLC like those of the past, or at least give us a couple of the traditional game modes like infection etc and a couple original or asymmetrical maps to vary the pool. In an attempt to streamline this game for eSports, they killed a lot of the Halo-y feeling in MP.

It honestly surprised me how boring and dull Halo 5 ended up being. Excluding Sanghelios and Argent Moon, all the campaign levels were just dull, grey, canyon levels (Meridian in particular). Almost all the multiplayer maps are either boring industrial corridor levels or ugly forge maps, and there are only the most generic modes to play on them. The Warzone maps have mostly the same layout and the same structures and the boss encounters are always the same. All in all it is just an underwhelming experience.

That said, if I can expect Halo 6 in Fall 2017/Q1 2018, I will be a little less pissed off. I would even pay a £7-15 maps/game modes DLC if it was up to scratch, not stolen from the community and showed actual innovative development instead of just holding-speed dev.

Took the words out of my mouth. I shudder to say it but they took the Halo out of Halo. While Battlefront and CoD were learning from Halo and other non-generic shooters, Halo seems to have emulated the worst of those games in an attempt to produce a streamline game that looks good at eSports tournaments. Now don’t get me wrong, it was about time Halo got a graphics bump, better frame rate, faster paced games, better verticality and some new weapons etc, but they could have kept some of the original looking maps, asymmetrical gameplay and wacky game modes.
I don’t play Halo for CoD in space, I play it for the fascinating lore and original MP. I think for their April or May update they really need to surprise us. I am thinking an all new (not redone) game mode, a new big team battle map and a completely new (or faithful remake from Halo 3) arena map. No more remixes, no more clunky industrial areas or symmetrical arenas, just a map that could conceivably have been part of an organic battlefield, or some sort of wacky space age building.

What is there to feel out? People are asking for more variety in game modes/play lists. They have them already available, right now. They obviously work well enough to add to the game for the weekend, so they don’t have to be play tested. Why not make some, if not all of them permanent? Why hold them back and release one every Friday night, only for it to be gone come Monday, -Yoink!- people off more?

And we all know why they are pushing Warzone and promoting ESports so hard. Warzone = REQS = MONEY. That’s why BTB wasn’t available at launch, and why now they can’t be bothered to make maps for it. I actually don’t mind the REQ System, but it looks like it has taken over their priorities when it comes to giving us content for the game.

As far as ESports goes, they are desperately trying to make Halo the juggernaut it once was. Hopefully they succeed. But not if it means they slack on the content that makes Halo fun for the rest of us.

They should have said:“We as a company dont know how to make a good game, we failed with H4, TMCC and H5 will be bad too. Dont expect anything good or worth your money.”
Then I would be fine with them and I would have 100$ more for usefull stuff.

Halo 5 is in dire need of new and PERMANENT gametypes and playlists. Over the weekend Greenskull called them (343) out on Twitter & YouTube.
