We NEED Backfilling for Infinite!

I mean, there’s no reason not to, right?

The worst part of Halo matches is when you get stuck 2v4 in a match because you had 2 people quit. It’s frustrating and not fun. This may be the #1 thing I want to see from a tech side for Infinite.

I hope it doesn’t have it in Infinite, it’s awful.

You’d rather have people quit and wind up on the wrong side of steaktaculars? because it won’t backfill for Sweaty Stevie who quits when his team is down 3 at the start of a match?

Correct.

Backfilling is not an appropriate solution. Especially when they use skill based matchmaking to the degree they do, it’s actually pointless even considering join in progress.

If it is 4v2 the 2 people should be able to quit with no quitting penalty. That’s about it.

backfilling will be in Infinite. With bots.

I am okay with this, the enemy can then kill the bots repeatedly and get the game over as soon as possible.

You should not have to backfill with human players.

No backfill in ranked either, no bots of course.

I think I’m cool w bot backfill in casuals.

I think no backfill in ranked is the right move too. That would be a miserable experience otherwise. Maybe I should have been clear about that up front.

As was mentioned above, does the distinction between ranked/social matter?

I tend to play social w Halo and would love backfill but I don’t think it should ever be a part of ranked games. So I guess in that regard, we are on the same side.

We don’t know if bots are in ranked but, apparently ODST & Spartan rank bots are pretty good.

Bot ranking being;

Recruit, Marine, ODST, Spartan.

So long as the bots aren’t brain dead stupid I don’t mind if they backfill in all modes. Sometimes bots can be better than players if the AI is good enough. I remember a long time ago me and two friends did a 3v1 against the highest difficulty bot in Black OPs 2, and it thrashed us spectacularly. Sure we weren’t the best players, but we always did pretty good in matchmaking.

If the bots are as smart as they are described in July’s Inside Infinite I see no reason that they shouldn’t backfill in all modes. Even if the AI kinda dumb I’d happily take an extra teammate when I’m in a 1v4. I think we’ll all be pretty impressed about the quality of the AI. I mean they know how to strafe and dodge rockets apparently as well as exploiting the map like a player. That’s pretty promising.

-Game going poorly
-Someone quits
-ODST/Spartan bot replaces them
-Tables are turned
-Later on, you can say to all your friends “I got carried by a bot the other day”

That’d be pretty funny honestly, if the bot replacing a quitting/booted player ends up out-performing the rest of its team or even the other team. Joking aside though it makes me wonder how the bot’s ‘rank’ will be decided when it replaces someone. Possibly it’d be based on the rough skill level of who it’s replacing? Or the average skill of the team its joining?

Yeah, Bots in Infinite will definitely will help with people leaving during a game.

I generally hate backfilling since my experience with CoD all those years ago with getting put in games that are just lost causes soured me to the idea, but I would be fine with it if it was done with bots. Sounds like a good compromise to me. People who don’t want to deal with join in progress don’t have to be forced into bad games where their is no hope of winning and people who are in games where people quit at the very least get a bot to help them out so their not out numbered.
