REQ system is ok, but Achilles is the only armor obtained via hard work, do you remember when you see a guy with Hayabusa or the flaming helmet? you feel intimidated and scared, because you knew that guy was skilled, but now achilles is the only armor that still produces that feeling :c
Hayabusa took skill? Pretty sure you just needed youtube.
And the flaming helmet was for purchasing the Legendary edition. I would’ve like an emblem, or helmet for beating the campaign on legendary though.

A cortana on rampancy emblem?

I feel ya. Like how some stuff in Halo 4 required a commendation to be completed, right? Like assassinations for the Venator set or something.
I think that could be cool, having certain armors or skins (or something) be unlock-able via completing lv5 on a commendation.

He’s referring to halo 3. The flaming helmet was a bungie/special community member exclusive. (At least back when bungie was still controlling the franchise) But I get the OP’s point. In halo 3 you were given armor by accomplishing something in game. The aesthetic elite armor set was obtained by getting the triple kill with an energy sword achievement. It’s more respectable than a RNG roll.
Skill has no place in Halo. It’s always been a random, gimmicky, big dumb shooter than anyone could play. The more Arcady it is the closer to home it feels.
If anything, we should be able to purchase armor with credits -or- everything should be unlocked like in MCC.

Hayabusa was unlocked by getting skulls. That wasn’t really a skill thing. The only reason I didn’t have the helmet was I was too lazy to jump through the rings in the right order on the last level. (It helped that I never like the armor) Flaming helmet? Are you talking about the reach thing that you had to have bought or the bungie one that meant you worked for them? Either way it isn’t a skill thing, unless you think wasting money is a skill. While I wouldn’t mind seeing a few armors to be available for meeting certain benchmarks, your argument doesn’t really hold up. The only armor that you would have to be skilled for is Helioskrill before they added it to the packs, which was in halo 5.
edit: I guess you could also consider recon, but that was given away like candy.
I want the actual Master Chief armor with a Red Cape attached to it. To obtain it, you must acquire 500 triple doubles

Katana then. If memory serves me right, we needed a decent amount of gamerscore for it.

Katana was only “skill” based pre dlc. The original 1000 was actually pretty tough. But DLC achievements for finding a skull on a dlc map for 50gs made it pretty trivial. Realistically, I’d say recon was the only thing that held merit.
If one of the armors is classic CQB.
If they can make a mark 6 & reach armors that actually look like their originals.
CQB deserves a redo dynast ≠ CQB.

Yes that’s true. After the DLC it was much easier. Recon most certainly was hard.
So really we need another recon style armour unlock

Well to get the outfit, you had to find all the skulls, but to get the Katana, you had to get the base 1000 gamerscore for the game. It was tough because you had a Double Kill in FFA with a Spartan Laser, and Overkill in FFA.

It would’ve taken skill if the IWHBYD skull couldn’t have been foudn through hacks.

Unless you played original Halo 3 in which it was only for Bungie employees.

The full original 1000G, unless you were one of those poor buggers who got a Legendary achievement before getting all the originals and permanently locking the Katana.
katana was cool but as others said after dlc was easy
vidmaster was a fun challange for recon. would really like having something like that again
I’d love a ‘special occasion’ set of armor. I know that 343i started to give out holiday emblems early on, but they haven’t done it since. But that’s not a special set of armor. I know this doesn’t really pertain to gaining a set of armor through skill, but I think it’d be a neat idea.
Bungie gave out Blue Flame Helmet Effects for a weekend of playing with the developers, and it was a coveted thing even today. Did it take anything but time to unlock? No. But it makes me feel special anyway.
So in conclusion, I think that 343i not only needs to focus on adding armor for commendations, but also focus on adding special occasion / holiday armor as a thankyou to players that continue to play after all this time.

The issue there is that now you have more stuff that cannot be obtained normally, or at all after that point. I know a ton of people who got salty about the HCS Contender and HLG Team weapon skins, as they didn’t get them then and therefore can’t fully complete everything (not to mention the broken mongoose bs).

I understand their pain, and was unable to obtain that armor, which kinda’ sucks, but I understand that it wouldn’t be special to everyone. If they do holiday stuff, it could be obtained the next year. Or even after the multiplayer drops off, just give it away maybe? Alongside removing it from the completion count.
I just threw that out there in hopes that one day they may do something like that. But I’d be totally okay with a commendation set of armor (which would fall into the ‘you probably won’t be able to obtain it if you got the game long after the multiplayer community has dropped off’ mentality).

I see what you mean. And it would be kinda cool, to be fair.
