Every weapon in ranked has a leg up over the BR. The BR is just the default you keep around and spawn with so you’re not helpless to any of them.

I dunno why, but I can’t for the love of god get a Perfect on the Battle Rifle now to get the final challenge completed and claim the black visor. Even when people are running in straight lines it doesn’t seem to give me this thing.
The thing is, I’ve already gotten it twice, what more do I need to do lol.

Here’s the thing. You could laaargely negate bloom by crouching, but the issue is…? That made comp REALLY unfun and slow. On top of that? The issue with Bloom is that if two players are engaging at max RoF, ONE of them is going to win because of RNG. That’s the problem with Bloom. We can argue that pacing is what it wants, but the issue is that if you spam it, RNG can give you a kill faster than someone who’s obeying the rules and pacing. So there’s… LESS reason to obey they bloom when you can still get the same result.
It just sucks.
That’s why Infinite’s BR has no bloom. It’s consistent.
Personally I love the Battle Rifle in Halo 5 and Halo Infinite only because its not super OP compared to the other in the past. I have always hated the Battle Rifle, CE PISTOL, DMR in Reach and H5 Magnum only because how overwhelming powerful it is compared to other weapons. I know I’ve said this in other post and I’ll say it again. I don’t mind strong start off as long as the weapons on map are stronger. To be honest if the weapons where like in the Halo Lore and most Sci-Fi Universe stuff then these stupid Battle Rifle type post wouldn’t even be a thing. For those of you that may not understand the Covenant Technology is 1,000 years ahead of Humanity and the Forerunners are over 100,000 years ahead of everyone so having Bullets stronger than Plasma, Hardlight, and Energy weapons literally makes no sense at all.
The problem here is Halo really has no other option to keep weapons in check.
Most weapons in Halo have 0 recoil because people wine about it. Almost every weapon has the same accuracy whether or not you are ADS. And most human weapons have near hitscan projectiles. Outside of detached mounted weapons im not sure any weapon makes you run slower with it so there the potential downside for some weapons is diminished.
Slowing down projectile speed is what everyone goes to as a recommendation and while it can be fine if every weapon was just balanced that way i think it would make the game play awkwardly and not feel good.
I personally think the best way to fully bring the BR into the meta instead of having it sit on top as easily the best all around weapon to use would be:
This would allow the commando to be better because its still trash compared to all the other range weapons and then the BR would be pushed into the longer range roll right above the Commando’s effective range.
This way people would actually have to use close range map weapons to help defend themselves with BR spawns.
The ranged weapons would then all have a unique weakness.
Thé problem is Desync. Perfects most the time don’t get counted. That extra 1-4 shots just to get the finish is what has killed this game quite clearly. I’ve started to play and wow. Love halo in general always have. I don’t want it to die but there flawed thinking is going to kill it. They alllll should be panicking to fix this issue at all seconds if the day!!!
Are you kidding? The commando is already OP with the buff it got. A person who knows how to handle that gun absolutely shreds anyone that tries to fight him with a BR.
100%! And then to think 343 made this weeks ultimate challenge to get 3 perfects… Without the desync it’s already tough, since you have to be the only one to do damage to that player (and most maps are made so that there is almost constant fighting, so most of the time a teammate is also shooting that opponent or you will find yourself in a 1v2 and won’t win), but with desync it’s just pure agony. The amount of times i didn’t get a perfect medal, even though i clearly should have gotten it are just way to plenty.
I think my problem mostly is that they lowered the effectiveness out of zoom. Hip firing is essential for a game that knocks you out of zoom. So, to not be able to feel like I can finish a one hit at mid range out of zoom is a problem. In reality, I can finish that kill, but it takes an extra shot now, even on what should be a one shot kill.
This idea that every weapon in the game should be more powerful than the starting weapon is inherently wrong. They should have usefulness in balance. The needler should not kill faster than a BR can fire 4 shots, but it does. Is the needler a power weapon? If so, it should be on a longer timer. Same with PP. Disrupter, sidekick, carbine can all stay. Though even the carbine in a skilled players hand can wreck a BR weilder.
Controlling maps is about controlling power weapons and power ups. It shouldn’t be about controlling every single weapon on the map. That’s encouraging arbitrary movement, if I feel like I need to go out of my way to grab a weapon before engaging.
This is how arena shooters should play though. Now as far as the Needler beating the BR, it only does that at pretty close range. Outside of that, if you can easily stay outaide of tracking range or even if you are in range just a bit and can dodge a few needles the BR wins.
What this means is if you have a BR you need to work on keeping distance and using that to your advantage. Why should a long range weapon beat a close range weapon at close range? This is the problem with the BR/Magnum/DMR. Historically they have way over performed outside of their use case because they were a “Utility Weapon”.
This design goes counter to the 2 weapon system which is meant to encourage certain types of gameplay with certain weapons. If the devs always wanted you to have the best tool for the job they should be using a weapon wheel but since we have the 2 weapon system the Utility Weapon is just a blight against it.
They decreased damage and bullet magnetism. The BR only needed it’s max damage range decreased as to not be a laser when cross mapping. But 343 decided to lower its overall damage instead.
I can’t tell if the damage nerf was real or not. I could still frag in 4 bursts.
Maybe they changed the body shot damage.
I believe it’s only a damage reduction once a person is “one shot.” But bullet mag is decreased by over half now, though.
They never changed the damaged. No idea where you heard that from.
That’s not true either as a general statement. At very long ranges, maybe, but at most engagement ranges the change is much smaller.

Yeah, well we all know what 343 says vs. does are two totally different things. There is mounting evidence that the damage was reduced. That being said, the servers have gotten worse, so in reality, it’s hard to tell if it’s the BR or the game that’s the issue.
I am attempting to find more info on it from friends at 343, so we’ll see.

This is where they mentioned the damage changes. It’s just one sentence though.
Basically, they mentioned changing the base damage.
Fair enough. Seems hard to imagine that they forgot to mention it in the original blog post so I’m guessing it’s just a typo but stranger things have happened.
Wow wtf. As if the 1.5+ second ttk wasn’t bad enough. No wonder I haven’t been able to finish shieldless opponents. That’s my final nail in the coffin, this game will never have a starting weapon that makes it worth playing.
343 needs to hold firm on not allowing any weapon to clearly stand above the rest. Bungie’s biggest failing in all of their games was insisting on offering a weapon that clearly reduced the usefulness of other non-power weapons.
