We need a new environment for Forge.

I’m not saying for Halo 4 in particular although it would be nice. Ever since the days of Halo 3 I’ve been begging for a snow forge canvas. Ever since Reach our primary forge spaces consisted of the same things… Dull colored objects, green grass, and blue skies. Reach had Forge World which consisted of these things, Halo 4 came along and Ravine was forged on the most as Impact and Erosion don’t really offer adequate forging space, and then Forge Island comes along with more of the same.

I don’t want to sound like a jerk but I’m absolutely tired of looking at blue skies, green grass, and a dull white/grey object set. Anything would be better at this point. I wouldn’t mind seeing another desert like Sandbox, or a forge pallet consisting of roads and city style objects, swampy atmosphere wouldn’t be bad either with tons of natural vegetation and overgrown things in the pallet. Maybe have a Sanctuary/Delta Halo temple style object pallet. I’m just tired of the repetitiveness. If 343 can do me one favor it would be to make a new environment in a large very forge-able space. I’ve been hoping to see a snow environment since late 2007. I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I agree completely, but until we can get a half-decent forge interface, I don’t think a new environment is going to help revive the (long dead) forging community.

Thinking in Gear’s Forces of Nature DLC I really want several forge environments, like volcanic, desert and artic.

Y I CANT HAZ? D:

A full-fledged map editor would be nice.

To be honest I think they have been a little limited by the 360 itself. I’m interested to see what we can get on the new Xbox. I’ll reserve my forge complaints until after Halo 5. I think it would be cool if they utilized the Kinect into forge somehow. Like grab and pull to create hills and similar things like that.

A forgeable blood gulch canyon would make me one happy forger!

I would like to see a artic theme’d forge island/world.

Yeah, it would. Forge is laughably redundant.

I’m recreating Lockout on Valves Hammer editor as we speak, and boy oh boy is it better than forge. Dat fine editing…

OT: I would love a Snow or Delta Halo pallet right now or in the near future… Forge Island is good but the grey pallet really dropped a bomb on it for me. I love the fact that they added rocks and trees, but the actual block pallet is quite drab.

So yeah, unless we can get a full fledged map editor (unlikely) another map or two would be nice. Preferable Delta Halo/ Snow inspired with some hills and trees and rocks as pieces.

That’d make me a happy forger.

Snow Forge would be wonderful. I doubt we will ever get a full-fledged map editor. But being able to change the textures on building blocks would be heavenly.

Delta Halo would be a wonderful palette! I’ve always wanted a snowy Forge level as well.

I think it would be cool to have the option to change skins so the pieces didn’t look exactly the same in every map. We could have maps that look as if built by humans, Covenant, or Forerunner just by changing the skin.

I agree that the pallet in Halo 4 looks a bit dull and muted. I feel the same way about Haven. But if forge pieces didn’t look that way in every map it wouldn’t bother me.

I just thought of something.

LADDERS

Why the hell have we never had any ladders? I distinctly remember ladders being used throughout the campaigns of Halos CE-3 (not so much reach) and yet we have never been able to forge them in any of the games. Yeah, I know we have grav lifts, but ladders would still be cool to forge, don’t you think?

Sorry if that was kinda off topic, but I tend to go off on a tangent when people start talking about what they want in forge.

Ladders were replaced by grav lifts because they are easier to deal with and look less silly when using them.

Bungie talks about ladders…

I agree

We need big maps to forge on, Forge island is big, but its just so falt and useless for making a btb map (which needs some hills, etc for vehciles combat, etc)

I miss forge world…

Forge Island is awesome in terms of what you can make on it, but Forge Island looks very dull because it’s more or less the same white pieces, blue sky, blue water, green grass, etc. over and over again. I really liked how Sandbox had all of the themed rock walls, and the only map that’s like that in Halo 4 is Erosion with its rusty walls and unique look. Hell, it even has a grifball court like sandbox.

Here’s a list of canvases that I would love for Forge:

1.) A volcano/lava Map

2.) A Snow map

3.) A Map like sandbox with a sunset

4.) A Map at Night

5.) A Map that’s cloudy/rainy

Any one of these types of canvases would be awesome; especially the sanbox-like map or the Snow map.

It doesn’t need to be similar to Hammer. I want something along the lines of FarCry 2 and FarCry 3 which is obviously feasible on a console–it’s already been done! The only problem I see is that it cuts into development time. Oh well, only time will tell.

An arctic palette would be amazing. I’ve always loved maps like Cold Storage, Narrows, and Solitary, with their combination of ice and Forerunner steel structures that almost look human.

As for Forge Island, though, I think it’s not drab enough. There are way too many unnecessary details and doodads on all of the structure pieces, which makes them less versatile. Drab may be boring, but it’s a lot more useful than a bunch of pieces that are hideously cluttered. :\

Texture-swapping would be the best of both worlds. We could have only the detail we need, that way.

Indeed. I’ve always liked the icy forerunner structure best. AoTCR, Lockout, the previously listed maps. Each of them had a really nice feeling to them, and a pallet similar to those would be a wonder to work with (especially if we had some cliffs, a ravine and some nice large hill/rock pieces that actually blended well with the map).

As for forge island, I felt like it was supposed to be more forerunner metal styled. In comparison to Reach’s pallet (which, while not perfect was still quite nice) it lacks a lot of texture and designs. It definitely would have been nice if they’d gone one way or the other. It definitely tends to feel like a cluttered minimalistic pallet at times.
