TL;DR for those who won’t read: The REQ library is huge and is only going to get bigger over time. 343i is going to need to implement a better system to organize these REQs otherwise it’s going to be frustrating and in some cases impact your Warzone matches.
If you, like myself, love to play Warzone Firefight, or any kind of Warzone, you too have experienced the cluttered mess that is the Req system.
Don’t get me wrong, I love that 343 keeps adding new and interesting weapons and cosmetics, but as it stands there is little to no organization for Reqs or cosmetic items.
Here’s what it looks like today:
- Currently there are over 1000 cosmetic items: 229 Armors, 229 Helmets, 63 Visors, 298 Emblems, 27 Stances, 30 Assassinations and 129 Weapon skins - 147 ‘unlimited use’ starting weapon Reqs: 28 Assault Rifles, 35 Battle Rifles, 28 DMRs, 1 H2BR, 4 Magnums, 27 SMGs and 14 armor mods - Currently, armors, helmets and visors (and presumably other reqs) display themselves in the order they were unlocked instead of alphabeticallyThe library of req cards and Spartan customizes is huge already, 343 continues to release more of these in each update.
So picture this: You’re playing Warzone Firefight, you’re out in the field and you the last enemy of the round was just killed. You now have 30 seconds to make it to a REQ station to pick out the specific Battle Rifle you want. Only, you have to sift through 35 different Battle Rifle cards that take up the majority of the screen. You waste precious seconds, the round begins and several enemies charge and kill you, meaning on later rounds you’re stuck waiting 25 to 30 seconds.
I don’t know about you guys. Maybe I’m just bad at navigating menus, but I feel there’s definitely a way these huge amount of cards could be organized better as the library of them continues to grow, and I even have a few suggestions.
- Make the Req cards take up less space in game: Presently, when you open the Req station the first thing you see is the main screen. After that when you choose a weapon, like a Battle Rifle, you see all the versions of it below ordered by req points required from lowest to highest. While ordering them by required Req points is a good idea, I don’t think it’s enough. There are two things that define what a weapon is in Halo 5: what kind of scope it has, and what kind of additional modification (such as suppressor, extended magazine, ect) it has. I propose we further sort weapons by these factors via subfolders based on scope type. So, when you open up the Battle Rifle page you see something more like this - a selection of each Battle Rifle by scope type that, when opened, contains all the versions with that scope and each modification, ordered by number of Req points required. Additionally, further space could be saved by making the cards take up less space, meaning they aren’t going off the screen and the player can identify which one they’re looking for faster. This would help with more intermediately sized loadout options like armor mods. Instead of seeing this in game, we should see this much better organized alternative. I believe these changes would eliminate almost all the frustration of picking loadout weapons and items in Warzone. - Organize the cosmetic libraries alphabetically: The Spartan customization screen items are currently organized by the order in which you unlocked them, which is highly inefficient since nobody in their right mind would be able to remember when they unlocked a specific piece of armor out of over 200. In the Requisitions library though, under customization, they are sorted by rarity which is better than nothing. But I propose we sort armor in the Spartan Appearance tab under Customization alphabetically. I don’t know about you guys, but I like to change my armors often. I also am… not exactly a fan of the majority of armors, meaning I have specifics I like: Nightfall, Mark IV, Helioskrill, Wrath, ect. We know the armors we like by name. So logically it’d be easier to find them if they were sorted alphabetically. - Overall reduce the size of parts of the UI: This is more of an opinion, but I don’t know why the armor screen in particular uses preview images as large as they do. The helmet screen is able to fit in many more choices. Plus, we’re given a 3D rendered view of our Spartan in real-time: there’s not really a real benefit to having preview images in the first place, so if we are to have them, make them _smaller as to make navigation faster and easier._Now my last idea is a little out there, and it’s outside of the realm of my first suggestions, but I still think it would be a very useful setting.
- Programmable loadouts or ‘favorites’: It would be useful if you could ‘favorite’ loadout weapons you prefer so that when you have enough REQ points and you either died or accessed a REQ station they would auto-select. For example, I love the COG Battle Rifle and the Tactical Magnum. At the REQ screen if I pressed Y or some such button it would ‘favorite’ these weapons so that in future games, as soon as I got 4 REQ points and either died or walked up to a REQ station it would give me the weapons without having to sort through the menus. This is more time killing bad guys, less time pressing buttons to get a gun. I should note that I think this should only be applied to loadout weapons and armor mods, not power weapons, vehicles or powerups: this is so you don’t accidentally waste them.
In any case, if you too feel that the REQ system is getting a little crowded and cluttered, please say so in this thread so 343 can hear and perhaps do something about it. If you have any other ideas on how they could go about sorting and organizing, please share. Thanks for reading!
