We have a potential champion - Halo Infinite.

Three flighting tests later and I can confidently say Halo Infinite is in the running to be not only the redemption of the series, but its greatest game ever!

Its foundation is so entertaining, so much bombastic fun - a blend of challenging gunplay with amazing combat moments. Its rough around the edges. Lots of fine tuning. That said, what we have is something I never imagined would happen. Bungie has a challenger for the best Halo game ever developed. The story looks to be emotionally charged, sweeping and a personal, adventurous romp.

I grew up with this series; I was…mmmm… about 12 when I played Halo CE on Windows XP, this bulky Dell laptop. Fifteen to eighteen years later, its amazing the potential this game has! Halo 3 - my all time favorite game, number one on my top ten list - may finally have a challenger to take its place, above Halo 2.

Big Team Battle rocks - may be the series’ best. Arena is tough yet immensely rewarding. Bots are awesome… mostly. Weapon drills are useful. Training is way too much fun.

“Oh yeah, its all coming together.”

343 Industries, don’t let us down!

Yeah I have a soft spot for Halo 3 as one of my favourite multiplayer games of all time.

Can honestly say I think Halo Infinite is like an improved version of H3. If they nail the competitive side (which I’m confident they will) then this game is going to be immense for all variety of fans and skill levels.

Halo 2 is still my favorite by far.
like nothing comes close to how much i love the halo 2 MP and I seriously doubt Infinite will have a better story than halo 2.

a couple big things about infinite for me are no playable sangheili, no dual weilding, no splitscreen/co-op campaign, MICROTEANSACTIONS, another MC story and spartan story, a battle pass.

the MP was fun but…. These microteansactions and no dual wielding and no playable sangheili and no splitscreen make me really sad….
I honestly don’t know if i can get over these things and even if i could, halo 2 MP (when not full of sweats) is more fun imo, and the story of halo 2…… I can’t even start to tell how awesome that is

You must have ignored that campaign will have split screen and co op, but later.
Microtransations, fine, but no lootboxes hs great.
Halo 2 is a phenomenal game. No doubt. Nut its broken, broken a lot.
Your reasons are weak. You need to look past small features you want to the whole picture.

I know what you mean I grew up with the series too CE was the first Halo game I played and the very first fps I have played and I played it on my Xbox original (not the Xbox 360 the one before it) Halo Infinite looks like it’s gonna be great currently my favorite Halo game is [Halo CE](http://Halo combat evolved) the first game in the series but Halo Infinite is putting up a fight to either take CEs spot on my favorite list or get a spot next to it lol

I wholly agree. I am ready to lose myself in Halo Infinite

Halo: Infinite is slowly rising to the top of the board and it hasn’t even officially released yet, I love the way the gun play is handled and the maps/spawns are just spectacular,
the campaign is also another thing I’m ready to stuff my face in.

Yeah… everything feels great about this game, the weapons, the movement, the vehicles, the maps, the equipment, the bots… everything feels balanced really well!

It’s like they took the best parts from all the previous Halo games! I think we’re 100% on the right track with this one.

100 percent agree. Every other Halo game for me personally hurts now to go back to. Especially Halo 3.

Agreed, no co-op campaign is actually going to delay me playing it. I want to play it with my partner first time, so we’re waiting until co-op comes.

I’m absolutely ready for Infinite! I certainly have my criticisms but it’s mostly the live service stuff. The game has been beyond fun to play and my time on Fragmentation has already left me with happy memories. I’m certain the campaign is going to be just as fun as well.

I agree with you, I can’t wait to see how the campaign is doing with all this weight. My biggest issue at the moment is not having an option to turn off crossplay and not knowing who’s on the PC or Xbox at match, but clearly it’s an easy fix for launch.

I also feel that this game has the potential to be the best game in the franchise.

But I won’t hold my breath for that. It’s just nice to see a Halo game come out that’s nailing the formula, and going in the right direction. But there’s still a lot of work to be done before it can be considered a real contender for best Halo game.

Vehicles in particular don’t feel even close to right for example. Bungie nailed the hell out of vehicles in Halo 2, and they just kept getting the handling more and more perfect right up until Reach. 343’s vehicles have needed work in each game, but Infinite’s are a whole new level of unpolished so far.

Still though. It’s better than 4 or 5 by a mile. I’d say right now it’s about right where I’d put Reach. That’s to say unlike 4 or 5 I won’t drop this game in a month or two because I want Halo and got something completely different.

Really excited for the game to be out. It already has so much potential just from the bits we have experienced, and I can’t wait to play the whole game.

I really don’t want to be curmudgeonly but i’ve etched out that niche over the years. This is the most hopeful i’ve been for a 343 game to the point if it receives the fixes I don’t think the population will drive off a cliff in the first 6 months. Cross platform and free to play are big boosts but lets be honest here.

In regards to single player the campaign gameplay in H4 was not good, it was less than average compared to other shooter campaigns let alone Halo. A good chunk of the fanbase hate the prometheans, their bland appearance, their lack of personality, their lack of good dialogue, their unfun weapon sandbox, their behaviour and their sponginess. The Covenant weren’t flash either. Many can disagree but I think the same of H5. Given both games gameplay isn’t all that fun and the only footage we have of Infinites campaign was a PR dumpster fire it doesn’t look very promising. When compared to the campaigns of CE, 2, 3, ODST and Reach they’ve fallen flat so that’s a hump Infinite has to get over. ODST and Reach firefight were a great addition to PvE style gameplay to which Spartan ops and Warzone firefight don’t compare. The single player and co-op experience in 343s games is pale compared to prior offerings.

With regard to multiplayer I like these Infinite maps, I still think the ones we’ve played are a notch below the top 10 maps in any older game, hopefully the full line-up challenges that, I don’t think too highly of what 4 or 5 put out map wise. Vehicular physics in Infinite so far seem pretty rough and that was also the case with 4 and 5. When contrasted against the older games the only game that had worse vehicular physics and feel was CE. Halo 2, 3 and Reach were all great games when it came to gametypes and gametype customisation, by comparison many gametypes don’t see the light of day anymore, which dampens custom game options and offers less variety for MP. Then there’s still the potential some legacy playlists get the H5 BTB treatment and forgotten and pushed to the side.

The user interface is a huge step-up but in terms of fluidity and ease of access Reach has it beat. The excessive audio and visual noise is a pretty big complaint for Infinite moving forward. HUD and medals are also both something that aren’t too hot and while they aren’t the be all and end all they are still important and are tolerable but not all that likeable. Hopefully Infinite improves on file sharing as that’s been a step back from Reach too.

Then when we think about all the issues people had with the flights that either need to happen (aim fix) or many people want to happen (friendly fire, collision etc) that may or may not change at launch there’s still things to consider. Balancing the PC userbase and the Console userbase will be a challenge as MCC did not get it right.

The biggest issue though is that with 4, MCC and 5, they all released broken or with a significant issue and weren’t fixed until many months after release when the population tanked already. 343 speaks of learning lessons moving forward after each game, leaving glaring issues that modders could fix in a week or two cannot happen like it did with those games. This will kill the population and potential of the game, and with a PC audience it would be a PR death sentence given the higher standard and mod-ability of PC games.

Vehicles are not meant to be invincible bullet sponges, not built out of plastic. Yeah they have work on those to do.

Infinite is such a nice mix of Halo 2/3 and Halo 5
