Hey everyone! CreeperBo here.
We recently received more screenshots of Halo Infinite’s campaign, and I was hyped! However, upon further notice, I realized the Jackals looked…not their best. You can go to the more recent articles and zoom in on the Jackals, and they look like they were made in Halo 2. However, they looked different in the E3 2020 reveal, so I would hope that they’re better.
Does anyone have any info as to why the jackals might look so bad?
Thanks.

Screenshots can have noticeably lower quality when zoomed in as the pixelation gets higher and the quality lowers more when zooming in pictures, but in gameplay it looks much better because everything is actually being rendered. Also, it’s being run on a really good graphics card, but not the best, and also at only 1080p, which lowers texture quality. I’m sure that Infinite will look a lot better in gameplay than screenshots.

That’s true, and I can understand that. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens.
Everything is still in the polishing fase. Halo Infinite will look a lot better when it releases!
Since they were in the background, it’s probably safe to assume the Jackals weren’t ready to be shown up close, whether that’s their full AI behavior or design. What we saw was probably included purely to confirm they would be in the game. What we were shown was an early build, and that was evident with the close-up showing the facial expression of a certain Brute. I’m sure things will look incredible during the full reveal!

He is talking about the screenshot of the Inside Infinite of April not the gameplay reveal of last year.
And the screenshot was taken to show off the wide screen compatibility of the game on PC so it was a wide angle photo meaning that if you zoom on the Jackal that is on the bottom left of the screen, it’s all pixelized because a photo/screenshot isn’t meant to be zoom in after being taken.

I know. I was using the gameplay reveal as another thing to refer to, but I’m rereading my comment and I didn’t word it clearly at all!

This.
Besides the fact that the screenshot is pixelated, you need to remember that video games use this thing called LoD/Level of Detail. The farther away an object/character is from the player, the lower the quality of the model gets. This is used to conserve resources since, for the player, it doesn’t matter if the character 50 meters away has a triangular head and 200x200 texture map or something.
If you want to evaluate the quality of Infinite’s Jackal model, you’ll need the highest quality LoD setting you get when the character is near the Chief.
