Here’s a grain of salt you should take with my thread: I have OCD that manifests partially in obsessions with excess/backlog, organization, tidiness, etc.
After playing copious amounts of Halo 5 the past few weeks, I’ve realized that we are given too many REQ cards to keep up with. I’m talking about ones we actually use in Warzone matches, like power weapons, vehicles and power-ups. I had a gigantic backlog that I’d never put a real dent in, so I just sold it all(except for a few gems like Scorpions and a Phaeton) and started fresh. I wanted to get on a good routine where I’d make sure to use up all my cards in matches, so I’d have a clean slate when I had enough points to buy another Silver pack.
I quickly realized that it’s simply impossible to use up all your cards(even if you’re using them as much as you can in a match) before you get more cards. You get so many cards in a pack! There’s just not enough time in a match to use lower level cards and also build up enough points to use the higher level cards and end up using all. There is simply not enough time.
That’s when I realized it’s all intentional. We’re given more cards than we can actually keep up with in our matches(even from a clean slate of having no cards). This is to make us think “I better play some more Warzone so I can use up some of these cards I have” or “I want to use some of the new cards I got so I’ll play just a little while longer”.
It’s a psychological scam. Taken to the logical extreme, you’d be playing literally forever because you’d never reach a point where you’re both out of cards and out of points to buy more packs. Mathematically, you literally never will.
For an OCD person, this is somewhat mentally intolerable.

Yeah, only keeping the really good stuff is a wise choice. That’s what I’m starting to do now.
The total number of cards is a lot, but when you look at individual items it’s not usually that easy to stockpile them. I’m dangerously low in supply of certain power weapons that I grind commendations for right now…

I’m actually doing somewhat the opposite and only keeping the cards for weapons and vehicles needed to complete certain commendations. When the only power weapons that I have are suppressors, bolt shots, and plasma casters, then I’m forced to actually use them even if they are not my favorite items.
I keep cards for weapons I still need to complete commendations for. But I don’t keep them exclusively for their specific commendation, I also keep them if they can contribute to another commendation. Example: SAWs wreck ghosts and banshees. Therefore I keep it until I finish the SAW, ghost destroy, and banshee destroy commendations. It’s also very good at snipe-stealing credit for warden/phaeton kills due to very high rate of fire and high damage.
Non-vehicle needlers, suppressors, storm rifles, energy swords, shotguns, etc etc etc. I sell them all. I keep plasma pistols for map utility (sometimes I actually PTFO) and I’ll keep the occasional shotgun for REQ level building. If you turn video games into work like I do, and I see some of you guys do in the form of commendation farming then I have this to say…
In a high REQ level game… if you get lucky enough to steal an energy sword with like 70% or higher left on it. Go select the upgraded thrusters armor mod. Grab an active camo 2 or higher, and grab a Speed boost 2 or higher. Most fun I’ve had in a long long time. Put a thrill like that between your farming and it’s a huge refresher.
To the OP: I have never heard of a single person, aside from you, who thinks they need to play more to use up their cards. If anything, the path most of us are taking is “I better play more so I can get more cards”, in other words… unlocking more certifications for rare/UR/legendary items.

Question. I have all commons, uncommons, and rares out of the way in every category except emblems. My last few silver packs have been double emblem packs. I don’t recall getting ultra rare perma locks from silver packs is it possible?
Might just have to move on to gold packs

Sorry if I sound ignorant but what unlocks would be exclusive to bronze? Wouldn’t any bronze unlocks also be possible to obtain from silver?

Yes, you can get all Bronze unlocks via Silver. However, this is less efficient for farming “common” items than buying Silver, because you can get 4 Bronze packs for the price of 1 Silver. Silver for farming the Common permanents is okay because Bronze doesn’t always drop those, but Common consumable cards (guns and vehicles) are more efficiently grinded w/ Bronze.

And why in the world would you want to run out of cards??? That would completely suck. I use cards only when I feel the situation calls for it in games.
Also when I open a pack I immediately sell all the cards I don’t think I will use.
Well, it’s designed that way on purpose to keep people purchasing REQ packs. I’m at the point where I get a Mythic in every gold pack now since I’ve run out of everything else, but I am sure when they launch their new batch of emblems I’ll only get those. Like the 0-9 emblems… such a waste lol.

I thought the same thing. Then I started getting the RP refunds in my silver packs, but I still didn’t have the mongoose certifications unlocked. Seemed really weird to me, but then someone told me the mongoose certifications are exclusive to bronze packs. I had 1 out of the 6 or so mongoose certifications already, probably from when I tried my luck at a few bronze packs. Opened about 7-8 bronze packs and got the mongeese.

I wasn’t aware of how to best use the REQ system when I first started and I was just buying Gold, probably used my first 150k req points
I have more SAW’s and Plasma Pistols than I know what to do with and enough Mongooses, Ghosts, and Warthogs to supply an army, but I love just being able to pull them out whenever the utility asks for it

I do personally keep only 20 - 30 of them so I can use them when needed without problems.
Better selling so you can buy more packs
