So in the past week or so the big cheat makers have started to churn out the cheats for Halo Infinite. And this has Console players screaming to be able to disable Crossplay. But the truth is cheaters are always going to plague any free game even on Console these days. The type of ban wave anti-cheat that 343 plans to use for this game will not be sufficient. It would be for a Premium only title but it will not when people can immediately make a new free account.
The real answer is going to be to do what some other free games do, and have a different status applied to accounts that have spent a certain amount of money on the game. Then allow users to only match with those players if they want. This filters out 99% of smurfs/hackers. Because now after every ban wave they have to pay again. It’s the only real way the situation will ever improve. Phone Numbers can be spoofed. IP’s can be faked. Having to spend money is about the only thing that works.
