The -Yoinking!- “energy sword lunge” range of your melee attack is pure -Yoink- as it doesn’t use your thruster charge. Then you can’t thrust away from it after they lock on… What the -Yoink- man? And that mixed with the auto turn just makes it silly!
You would’ve hated Halo 2.

I’m a little confused with your point with them there…
The thing is with Halo, is that if you see something you don’t expect or cant counter easily. People tend to get mad and start thinking it is op when it really isn’t. When people find out how to counter that mechanic or whatnot then people think its under powered. So if the energy sword is bothering you…
…git gud

get good m8
So if you don’t do multiplayer, is the campaign sword lunge too op for you using it or being on the receiving end?
guys…I’m talking about spartan’s “base melee range” and how it ACTS like an energy sword and how you jump forward two feet with assistance… I have no problem with the energy sword itself!

Ya if anyone struggles with any concept of this game or just has an opinion about something they’re just not good enough.
Great logic

Halo is one of those few games where you take a step to throw your punch.

and lock on too, cause if I thrust away… Your following me, I promise!

Honestly, I haven’t noticed the lunge to be so much further than it has been from previous Halo games, but it wouldn’t surprise me. 343 has made countless “enhancements” and assistants to the game to make it easier for beginners. I don’t really engage in close-quarter combat very often so it’s hard to say (aside from getting a melee from behind or sideswiped).
The part that does bug me about your complaint is the part about thrusting away from stuff. I wouldn’t have so many gripes with the new abilities if they weren’t so inaccurate with their animations and timings. I constantly take damage from a grenade when I have thrusted far away from it by the time it explodes. I often end up dead from a person lunging with a sword when I have lunged away from them. Even when I watch it in theater in slow motion it is evident that I have cleared them with the sword and it still gives them a kill. They need to fix a lot of accuracy kinks or restructure how they are displayed.
I think you are seeing it lunge after you thrust is because it’s a hitscan, which helps with lag (the same with the normal Melee). It’s the same reason you can run around a wall and still die because the bullet already registered you dead. I’m not so sure making it more projectile is the answer, though, but maybe it is.

this was my point, ill work on my delivery.
but the thrusters, I assume, was meant for strategically moving away from harm… Yet the timings work sometimes and don’t work other times, which is why I brought this up cause if I move away from a melee I don’t expect to get hit from 6 feet away. Or get shot from a sniper I just thruster away from!

well this is now my question, what is my ‘safe range’?
I don’t even find the H5 sword too bad. It’s only annoying because they can sprint but at the same time they can be taken out just as quickly. Only map it’s a problem on is Overgrowth cause you are ALWAYS within range of the sword.

the mods on this forum are wild…why was that post deleted? I have been banned and warned for basically just having a civil conversation, or stating something I dislike about Halo in a passionate way. This is the one board I go to to have chill convo’s about Halo and you’d think we were talking about some illegal stuff here most times…HERE ME MODS!!!
