We have an official place and and a significant role in the Halo universe now. No longer are we just experiencing a story from the viewpoint of one man, but now we can make our own stories via Spartan Ops and War Games. Everything we do will affect how Halo 4 will play out and possibly the rest of the Reclaimer Saga. 343 has made an amazing move by enabling us to set our unique stories and experiences in stone. It feels like we actually matter in the universe now, and when a game is that immersive and personal for the player, you’ve got a winner and something fans will continuously enjoy for possibly years to come.
Sure, or maybe not. It’s just like any other MMO, every player has to do the same missions and save the same processes/kingdoms and defeat the same ancient evil over and over. Even if you don’t do a single mission, the next game you buy or DLC or expansion, will give you the same benefits as if you did and the story will assume you did everything.
It sure would be fun to see a game where our individual actions matter and could affect the universe (maybe in the Infinity game) but neither FPS not MMO has managed yet.
Ah, Grumbledock, you’re not looking far enough ahead. Because our multiplayer/war games/spartan ops spartan will matter, so will it’s career. Take for instance your K/D, winning percentage, completed missions, etc. Now imagine those spanning over 3 games in Halo 4, 5, and 6. By the end of this trilogy of Halo game if you’ve stuck with the same spartan (and not used another gamertag), it will have tons of stats. Now imagine if you are good at the game. Your stats may be very impressive by the end of the Reclaimer trilogy.
This is something that has NOT been done before. Don’t sell it short so quickly.
Halo 4 and the rest of the trilogy will be a new milestone and benchmark to hit for video games.
I’m so immersed.
I think this is partly the reason why Elites are not playable. Now, the plot feels so much deeper and to think we, the community shape the rest of the saga is very exciting.
I love this idea so much.

I dont consider a gametype affecting a number in another gametype a “benchmark”
