Or least we sort of do, think about every time you or anyone plays game, what kills you. The guardians have been killing Spartans, Covenant in the multiplayer for a while. Makes me wonder how this all makes sense since I thought the multiplayer was supposed to be set on the Infinity. Guess it’s a conspiracy.
"The Guardians are not a race of the Covenant, a subset of the Forerunners, or part of the Flood, but they have been present in the Halo universe since Combat Evolved.
The Guardians are responsible for all the accidental or mysterious unexplained multiplayer deaths in Halo. Whenever a kill occurs in a match that can’t be credited to a player, it is attributed to the Guardians. The Halo Wikia cites a number of examples of kills being awarded to the Guardians."

You bring up a very interesting point. While I don’t think that’s what 343 means by Guardians, it is something that we can’t look over.
Maybe they are surviving forerunners…?
Maybe true but it makes me wonder if previous games for the multiplayer weren’t all on the Infinity. Plus I checked this which doesn’t mention anything about them appearing on H4.
Could be the Precursors or something that came before them. I think it’s just a reference to Humanity becoming the guardians of the galaxy. The Didacts speech at the end of Halo 4 connects to this idea. We are reclaiming the role as the guardians of the galaxy/mantle.
Another thing that supports that guardians are actually characters is how bungie had concept art of what they’d look like and that they were going to be seen as actual characters in sandtrap
What I’d like to see at the very least is the guardians taking a greater role in multiplayer gameplay. Build in some basic voodoo magic to team deathmatch and you could really do a lot to advance the format.
Guardians sound like a potential demon in angels robes. I never picked up a “Forerunner” vibe, since the Precursors opted to exterminate all life and reign as eternal inheritors.
Including what goes on in Multiplayer.
I dunno. I just want there to be a new Eldritch abomination. /endbias

The secret of SandTrap revealed!
I think it refers to the Spartans as the “guardians” of humanity.
It could just be a place holder name like Recon was for ODST
It would be interesting if 343 makes our past experiences with them make sense in this game. Not a bad thought
In the epilogue to Halo 4 when the Didact is giving his speech, he says, “We are forerunner, gaurdians of all that exists.” I think this could have some relevance to the name given to Halo 5.
Halo 3 cut a level Guardian Forest and the character/weapon Guardians. But Halo 5’s may be another meaning.

Yes, it is. T_T
Guardians were supposed to be in Halo 3.
The texture palette for the multiplayer map “Guardian” was going to be used in a Campaign level called “Guardians’ Forest” which took place between The Ark, and The Covenant. It would include a Hornet section (which was then shoe-horned into The Covenant after it’s cancellation).
The mission would involved exploring Forerunner structures that bridged between several massive trees in a great forest on the Ark. And would be the only mission in the game to feature “Guardians” as enemies, which were big Sentinels shaped a lot like the big yellow hologram on Epitaph.

Yes, you are right. The Title “Guardians” totally makes sense now.
I was always thinking the ‘Guardians’ in this sense meant UNSC. But we cannot forget the forerunner (?) guardians mentioned previously. Even if they don’t actually appear as enemies, I’m sure they will appear as a plot point.
