At the end of Hunt the Truth Chief’s name was cleared and he was no longer deemed a traitor. thus at some point in Halo 5 Locke will go “oh, so he didn’t attack the peace talks, my mission is over I guess”.
…Unless Master Chief is deemed a traitor for a different reason in Halo 5… and why is ONLY chief a traitor and not the rest of blue team (who go awol with him)?
I’m guessing Chief is awol/traitor in Halo 5 for the same reason as Hunt the Truth
He is being hunted for deserting. Not for the peace talks.
He isn’t even being hunted for what went on in HTT, he’s being hunted because he’s a killing machine that went AWOL. Locke’s orders are to bring Chief back to answer for his actions and if he refuses, his team is authorised to put him down.

Dr. Halsey was labeled a traitor for kidnapping Kelly, lying to UNSC to get them to send spartans to Onyx, and attempting to “save” them. I don’t think 4 spartans going AWOL is any better… especially when one has Cortana’s memory chip (which might still contain all the information on it, even if it doesn’t have Cortana) and another is a commissioned officer, and all four combined cost about as much as the Infinity. And they’re public idols.
