Any company can say “We hear you.”
It’s another thing to actually do something about it.

Not to be dramatic but OUCH they finally killed my favorite franchise, and I don’t exactly like the changes to MCC.
So what games are people going to play now? Looking for inspiration.
It’s evident they are listening, but there are still some glaring issues. Specifically in regards to SBMM. It sounds like they want Halo to be a social game, but they arent willing to compromise sacking SBMM in social playlists. Sean even stated that there are challenges with implementing so many playlists with the SBMM system in place. I think thats the definition of absurdity.
MW 2, Warhammer 40k Darktide, etc…
Right? I’m beyond shocked. I’m -Yoink!-ing pissed.
Personally I’ve been playing some good old KOTOR 1 & 2 recently. Also was playing a good amount of the new Hitman trilogy, which is excellent. Been getting into the mood to play Age of Empires 2 again, might start picking up where I left off with the new campaigns in the Dynasties of India expansion that came out earlier this year. Plenty of great games to play while waiting the couple of years it’ll take for 343 to put Halo Infinite into the state it ought to have been in at launch.
Call of Duty also has around 11 different studios working on one game. That’s a bit of a disingenuous comparison, especially when we know 343’s staff is stretched extremely thin and middle management apparently has massive communication issues.
I believe in Staten and the new Live Service Lead. If you ask me, it’s short term pain over long term gain. Should the game have been delayed by like, 8 or so months? Yeah, I won’t deny that. I also think the game shouldn’t have been released on the xbox one. I ALSO think that management hiring contract workers for 18 months, only for them to leave a bunch of spaghetti code behind when they jumped ship and with no oversight on how to fix it was extremely unprofessional on both ends.
this is what game dev looks like when understaffed and under no crunch. Its the sad reality of it. At least we’re getting Forge, Co-op, and the rest of the Reach armor, including the CQB helmet everyone wanted.
Looking at it glass half full, I’m looking forward to Covert Flag. It reminds me a lot of Spies vs Mercs, Two separate events 1 month after the other, and more fixes that the game desperately needs.
I’ve said it elsewhere and not on Waypoint; the game needs dire, vital fixing at the engines core. Having to balance that with content is no easy feat, and I’m surprised they’re getting anything done at all. And while I agree that its disappointing, slinging death threats, harassment, and bad faith misinformation isn’t getting anyone anywhere.
Sounds like a 343 problem. It’s their fault for not creating an environment that attracts the talented people necessary to create a good and content rich game.
The worst part is the timescale. Everything seems pretty great honestly but why some things are taking so long is… Utterly beyond me. WHY does the Bandit Rifle need this much time?
It is what it is…
Maybe they’re being super -Yoink!- about balancing weapons in this game is all I can see.
Dunno’ man. I’m excited for everything they’re talking about, but… hoo. It is taking FAR FAR FAR too long.
So I am definitely a little disappointed. The biggest thing 343 can do to make this right is just release Forge as is. Create a file share system ASAP. It may not be a finished product, even so still the leaks look really good, but releasing it will give the community something to gnaw on and create content while they sort out their development woes.
Players can be making the content that is severely lacking and when development catches up they just release an update and boom we get a better Forge and better stuff. I think its a mistake to hold back Forge much longer after the leaks and delays.
I still feel this is a situation were 343i is wanting to do waaaay more then they actually capable off type deal. Kind of like how Cyberpunk turned out.
This is heartbreaking. I couldnt have kept my expectations any lower and this still managed to dissapoint me. I honestly thought this roadmap was satire until I saw all the serious replies
Maybe, but the game needs a real relaunch. If it can do that it’ll be okay honestly.
I don’t get the “trying to get people through battles passes as fast as possible” bit. I finished the Season 2 battle pass in a little over a month, playing about an hour or two a day and didn’t focus at all on challenges. I completed it in 1/6th of the time needed to complete it. How fast do they want battle passes to be? Everything unlocked the instant you access the battle pass? lol
Because they want to ensure even casual folks get through them quick. They want that “hit” so to speak. When the player gets to see a lot of rewards pop up very quickly, and then we get all “OHHH I DID THE THING”
that’s the goal, they want us hooked. 13 week seasons are their goal - they want to make sure they can fit events we can progress through quickly as well. They want us to have a never ending stream of “I got the ultra rare and legendary items horgh” feeling.
They want to find out, with the XP beta, what the best flow is for that. “How can we get a player to finish two events and a 100 level season pass in 3 months and make them want to purchase a new 10 dollar pass every season?”
Then they hit the goal and say “so… What else can I do now?” lol…
Magic the Gathering EDH, all you need is a deck, there are some cheap yet fun pre-cons out there. Then a phone functioning as a webcam, or a webcam, and internet access. Off to an EDH discord server or forum and you’ll be gaming on Spelltable in no time. Some sleeve if you want to protect your cards, it’s optional but I strongly recommend it.
Warhammer, both 40k and AoS has a lot going for it.
Start small and go for Warcry or Kill Team, then flesh out to the larger scale battles. It’s fun to assemble and paint miniatures.
If you merely want digital games, weell.
Minecraft has had a very large update recently and is packed full with things to do.
The Ascent is a fun game with lots of content, and co-op, both online and couch.
Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries is a blast to play, and it has Co-Op as well, though you need a machine per player.
Mechwarrior Online if you want to duke it out in 12v12 player battles.
Among Us is hilarious, especially if you can get a good group together to play with.
Grim Dawn is a great Diablo “clone”, very grim dark and brutal.
Metal Fatigue is a special kind of RTS from waaaay back, only on PC but you could probably run it on a fridge or toaster today.
Valheim is an awesome exploration and survival game. Many games mixed and matched into that game, great blend.
Castle Story is a very unknown gem. Order your bricktrons around to harvest materials and build castles brick by brick, by your own design. Many game modes to choose from.
Morrowind may be old, but it has some qualities. If you’re on PC there are mods which almost bring it up to today’s standards with QoL and graphical updates.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto is a fun shooter with a great campaign, lots of humour.
Path of Exile is another Diablo “clone” which gets constant updates, and has a rather unique approach to skills and skill tree.
Sacrifice is worth a shot if you want to experience a different kind of RTS, where you as a wizard summon creatures and participate in battles. Literally no humans present at all. It also has a humorous side to it.
Iron Harvest is a nice alternative history RTS.
Total War: Warhammer series is a solid turn based, tactical strategy game franchise with an unimaginable amount of content.
You can’t go wrong with Heroes of Might and magic II or III, Divinity Original Sin II, Neverwinter Nights, Hostile Waters.
All great alternatives to, whatever this has become.
I myself am painting miniatures and playing The Ascent, might try my hand at Siege of Avalon.
