I had hoped this balancing issue would be fixed in the recent update, however I just finished a game consisting of two very differently skilled teams.
Team Eagle: Diamond 5, two Diamond 6s and a 1550 Onyx
Team Cobra: All Onyx, 1714 CSR average (top 0.5%+)
This was by far the worst matchmaking experience I have encountered so far in regards to team balancing. Will this be addressed with more tweaking? The difference in skill level between a 1500 CSR player and 1700 CSR player is massive. I don’t understand how the game can possibly think that this would be a reasonably balanced game. What’s going on?
I’m assuming that one, or both, of the groups would have been a squad… and the algorithm would have decided that it was the fairest match up available at the time.
And remember that if Eagle was a squad - their team ranking would have been increased above their individual sum (TrueSkill applies a weighting for squads).
And finally, keep in mind that the system will adjust for the result. If the higher ranked team wins the changes to rank for both teams would be minimal given the disparity. But if Eagle pulls off an upset they would be generously rewarded with rank (and Cobra similarly penalised).

Not all wins are the same.
I guess that team Cobra was a squad. I was the 1550 Onyx player in the Eagle team and was playing solo. I don’t know if the rest of my team were grouped or not.
I would argue that the matchmaker should wait until a fairer opponent team is found. The game obviously favours fast matchmaking over the quality of games. The problem is that these severely one-sided matches are not fun for either team. One team gets their butt kicked and the other team is unengaged and unchallenged. This is the problem that I’m trying to highlight.
It does not matter if CSR rewards/losses are appropriately distributed if the matches themselves were not fun to play. The game should be fun (balanced, as opposed to one-sided).
