ways halo can improve

i write this maybe for halo 4 or maybe even to carry on to halo 5. let me begin by saying that i do not hate halo 4 infact i love it, however there are many issues and being 343’s first halo game it was to be expected but nonetheless

  1. “multi-teaming” i’ve found that no matter how many players in the game, no matter how large or small the map i am constantly getting shot at by 2-3 people at once almost every battle i attempt to get in and the reason behind this is the instant respawns, it over-crowds the map majorly, while the constant combat off spawn might make the extremely competitive players happy the majority of halos population is your casual everyday gamer just here to have some fun, and this can be extremely frustrating to them and drive them away from halo 4 (as i’m sure it has to so many already)

  2. the split-screen frame rate lag, yes i know this is not a halo issue but a xbox hardware issue, but i think we can all agree we’d rather have smooth gameplay then pretty graphics

  3. forge maps bogging down playlists, normally this wouldn’t be such an issue but the frame rate lag is beyond terrible on forge maps to the point of being unplayable 1 or the other has to go

  4. slayer pro in infinity slayer/big team infinity slayer. this should be a no-brainer when people search in an infinity slayer playlist we want to play infinity slayer, slayer pro should have its own playlist for people who want to play it

  5. the “bulltrue glitch”, this has existed since halo reach, when you kill a person who is lunging at you with a sword you earn a bulltrue medal but 90% of the time you still die, correct me if i’m wrong but the medal is for stopping the lunge, and if the lunge is stopped you should not die

  6. bring back true sword clashing, the melee on the sword should be faster then the lunge, otherwise people just clash over and over untill they both die which makes very little sense

  7. increase the ranks, getting to SR130 is ridiculously easy which gives us no long term goals to achieve with it as most got to 130 super fast and are now stuck

  8. bring back spree medals such as shotgun spree, sniper spree and so on, i can’t be the only one who misses them

  9. this is more of a question, where did perfection medals go?

  10. 1-stick deaths on ghosts, i’m alittle sick of having a ghost chase me down and for me to stick it with a grenade yet the driver still lives and kills me anyways, sticking a fast moving vehicle is tough to do and we deserve the kill as a reward

  11. separate social and ranks playlists, lets face it the halo community has just as many casual players and competitive ones, we both need representation

  12. add community favorite maps to action sack!! been saying this for years we all love playing all the custom games minigames halo, duckhunt, ice cream man, jenga, and so on

  13. show our ranks on halo, going to waypoint whenever we want to check our rank is just plain a hassle we need a way to see it live in game

  14. better variety of maps, what i mean by this is simple: all the maps are either really small or really big, we need more “inbetween room”

  15. affinity towards teams or guests, its very unbalanced for a team of good players all partied together to get a match with 4 randomly matched players or a team of guests, set searchs to give partied people affinity to each other and random players to random players, guests to guests and so on

  16. “double exp weekend” well not exactly but something similar, some kind of cool and unique playlists up every weekend like the good ole days

  17. big team maps are way to vehicle heavy, especially now since the recent map updates, even i love climbing in vehicles every now and then but there needs to be alittle balance to it if you try to join a big team match and run on foot you are going to get destroyed by vehicles.

  18. armor abilities need to be taken out of starting spawns and uses more as “power-ups” and placed around the maps, its just too ridiculous for someone to constantly have jetpack or camo, to make them placed around the map for pick up makes them just as useful, if not more so, yet balanced and fair all the way around

  19. the “join mid game” system was a good idea but does not work very well i cannot tell you how many times i’ve had teammates who were halfway decent quit only to be replaced by some not-so-skilled players and watching the other team make a ridiculous comeback and beat us.

  20. and lastly personal loadouts make work for other games, but not for halo, spawning with certain weapons that give one player an advantage over another off start is very frustrating in more ways then one

i state all this not as fact, but as my own personal opinion, and urge others to join in aswell. i am in no way hating on the game as i stated above i love halo 4 and think this was an amazing first effort by 343
, learn by doing as they say. i urge everyone at 343 to keep up the good work as i see you doing everything in your power to please us gamers and although alot of people hate on you for it, most of us appreciate all you have done fact is without 343, there would be no future of halo, i hope you take these thoughts into consideration as i tried not to state this as a “this is what i want” thread but more of a “this is what will make halo the true legend is deserves to be” thread
happy gaming folks

i prefer CSR to be kept private, because that information would not normally be available in a war situation, why should it be to you? it just gives you more reasons to make fun of people in game (seriously, half the time when i make a valid complaint, get called various homophobic slurs, and people equate rape, an act of forced sexual gratification, to beating someone in a videogame. same with “owning” another person. is being better than someone in a game really the equivalent of slavery? is that how people see that? makes me want to kill myself every time i hear that kind of talk. i actually went through rape, too, so i really think they are making very atrocious comparisons there).

1)gonna happen, no matter what. all depends on spawn points.

  1. xbox one will fix that

3)forge maps are awesome. just pretend the gray is rainbow colored

  1. slayer is slayer, enough said. if they didnt have the playlists merged, matchmaking would take even longer. as it is, it’s acceptable

5)has to do with the window of what’s considered a “simultaneous hit” if we fixed it, diehard halo fans would rage because “it’s not halo anymore”

  1. grifball makes a good case of this. it all comes down to who hits first. i would love to see swordblocking reivoked.

  2. unless they program more specializations, this isn’t gonna happen.

  3. that would be nice. i miss them too, but they were a bit irrelevent imo

9)they are a commendation of their own now

10)drop a second stick. problem solved!

11)agreed, but they need to make csr actually work first :frowning:

12)i’ve no experience there in the gametypes you mentioned, but more customization ability for gametypes would be nice. maybe add a function to upload gametypes too, like in reach

  1. i could take it or leave it. csr takes forever to move up in as it is

14)agreed

  1. or better yet, don’t predeterminitely ally partied people just because they are partied. give them a fair chance at it like the rest of us, then make a playlist for organized parties to form up and fight in, like a clan wars room.

  2. they have something like that, just not every weekend. remember that one slot in the playlists that always change?

17)YES

18)discussed to death, not happening, it’s part of the loadout system, get used to it… though maybe they shouldn’t be able to respawn with them… but remember this is based on a canonical simulation war game.

19)very lottery oriented. it is what it is, and nothing will change that. it’s a necessary evil

20)discussed to death, markedly untrue, especially post weapon-tuning. after you advance a few ranks you can get precision weapons. anything after sr-50 (didn’t you say we ranked up fast anyways? what’s the issue there?) is just cosmetics and extra abilities that take up a mod slot

21)you forgot to mention bacon. good stuff right?

thanks for reading!

well i have to say 1 thing about multi-teaming yes i know this is going to happen no matter what as it has in every past halo title, however instant spawns amplifys this 10 fold and makes the game rather unpleasant for a good amount of players

also i understand some of this is impossible to do in halo 4 as its already out and going on a year old now, i meant this only partially towards halo 4 and partially towards halo 5 and other future titles

i appreciate your input, its discussions like this that are going to help shape the future of halo and hopefully make it something we can all love for years to come, thanks for taking the time to read and respond

lastly, yes i love bacon :stuck_out_tongue:

4 and 7 I totally agree with. Also, JIP has got to go and there is nothing competitive about instant respawn. It is game breaking and has got to go.

If your getting teamed up on spend more time crouching and don’t be so visible, use stratagy.

OP is spot on. I hope that 343i takes a lot of these ideas to heart. With them, I think Halo 4 can make a turn around. Without them, I think the game and franchise will slip further into irrelevance.

For 10, I thought it was established that vehicles were made of paper.

how is it game breaking if both sides can use it? gamebreaking is when one side has something that can’t be used by the other side. if all sides can use it, and all sides know about it, then it isn’t a “game breaking” feature. ordnance drops are closer to game breaking than that, on account that not everyone gets a good weapon out of it.

JIP is needed to force even teams. since you can’t just arbitrarily redistribute teams midgame without rage, the only viable option is to drop people in the middle of it. JIP often joins new players immediately for the more popular playlists. i fail to see what the problem is. yes there is always that occasional crap game you got jipped into. live with it. your k/d isn’t going to die, and you can recover your csr rating if it goes down. it’s not like that one loss is going to make you lose everything you had. adapt, move on, live with the JIP system.

one thing OP didn’t mention was quit-bans. since we DO have JIP, i see no need to equate quitting with dishonor anymore, since any good gamer knows that quitting is a sign of respect for the opponents, and shows that you want them to find actually challenging opponents. your score is not deducted from the overall team score, so you don’t actually remove anything unless the team doesn’t get a new player quickly, and from as many games as i’ve played, usually someone JIP’s quickly. JIP was made to solve the issue of quits once and for all, and leaves the game open ended.

> how is it game breaking if both sides can use it? gamebreaking is when one side has something that can’t be used by the other side.

Equality doesn’t exempt something from being gamebreaking.

Let’s say the DMR was rapid fire and a one shot kill. Everyone has access to it, but it renders every other weapon in the game useless.

If you guys would look at the whole game instead of just the multi-player you would realize that

a) the Spartans get load outs because, real soldiers (like the Spartans) use more than just two guns. its called preparing for battle. im sorry if that’s harshly, but you got to look at the whole game not just one aspect.

b) ordnance drops can be semi programed as in you can take a perk to increase you chances of getting a weapon you prefer. if you don’t use this perk, then stop whining. ordnance also fits into the theme of the game. its like soldiers in the field requesting an air strike or medi-evac.

c) you can totally kill the driver of a ghost with one sticky grenade. me and my friends online have even tested it, because of your post. it all depends on where you stick the vehicle. if you stick the enormous battering ram of a front end, then no of course your not going to get the kill.

but i do agree with the idea of ranked matches, im sick and tired of getting a lobby full of 130 players and getting epically schooled.

a clan war game would be great!!! but they give you the option to make your own custom games so just make one of your own and make it shareable

I don’t think there is a single thing wrong with halo 4.

this is exactly what i intended with this thread, to provoke a in depth debate about
what we, the players, want out of halo. 343 is working very hard to make us happy and while its impossible to make everyone happy they can certainly find a balance that we can all live with and be happy, keep the great ideas and opinions coming!

I stopped reading at #1. Team shooting is not a problem with Halo, it IS Halo.

yes it is but not as consistently as in halo 4, teamwork is 1 thing, being completely overwhelmed every game and every match in every playlist is completely different, #1 is about instant respawns, not team shooting
