As the title says, when I sign into halo waypoint, it logins it and shows someone elses gamertag- presumably a super old one that has been inactive for years. How do I correct this issue and get it to show my GT?

What is your actual gamertag? Might be able to help you better if we know what it is.

99% sure you’re signing in using the wrong email.
If this is your account you play Halo on, then why haven’t you got any achievements. I’m pretty sure you are signing in with the wrong account.
