Does anybody here think that getting to Spartan Onyx seems like it would take years, and it probably does. I was just wondering how anybody can possibly post that much to get that high, I mean 11117 posts for Spartan Onyx, That’s a lot. Anyone think it’s a bit over the top?
Try not caring about it and just participate in meaningful discussions. The majority opinion on forum ranks seems to be that they promote bad behaviors and spamming. I personally agree because that is how I used to be on forums. Thought it was more about achieving rank then it was putting thought into what I post. I am here every day but don’t post as often as I am here like I used too.
In some forums that I am a part of, top poster is nearing 70K posts, and the top 5 have over 40K posts. Not impossible, it just takes a lot of time and being active.
It just takes time and engaging in most posts. But you have to find the line between spamming and being constructive. I rarely visit the General Discussion forum but instead hang around the game forums and the support forums posting what advice I can give and just trying to be helpful in general and share the occasional opinion.
Does it really matter anyway? I mean, I’m not here to ruin anyone’s party but ranks are just there to make your profile fancier, nothing much. As far as you’re active you’re gonna rank up easily I guess.
It’s not over the top because ranking up isn’t the purpose of a forum. I could’ve easily spent the last nine years racking up posts in places that were essentially sanctioned spam threads. If I had played my cards right, I could probably have around 100,000 posts. But what then? I’d just be the guy with the most garbage. I’d be a curiosity. But posting a lot isn’t hard. Any idiot can do it, and anyone with the least bit of sense can do it without getting caught.
I’m proud of a lot of things I’ve done on the forums. I’ve helped people, I’ve given people something interesting to think about (something that at least I think is interesting), I’ve helped to clarify facts and provided useful information. At the same time, I’ve learned a lot about Halo, my own views, critical thinking, writing, and a great number of other things. There are people I’ve come to known and total strangers who respect me. I’m more happier now that I would be if I had been the first to Spartan - Onyx, and the first to 100,000.
Don’t think about the forum ranks. Focus on what matters, which is being part of a community.
To me, it is a incentive to be more active and try to contribute to a discussion. Giving people a way to be rewarded for being an active member of the community.

Makes sense I suppose
It’s kind of over the top, but it doesn’t bother me much because I don’t care about the rank. These days I just use it to identify how much you’ve contributed to the forums over the years.
You’ll rise in the ranks over time, don’t worry. The more you forget about it, the quicker it will feel.

You also have to realize that these forums have been active for about 10 years, representing the span of 6 main titles (Reach, CEA, Halo 4, MCC, Halo 5, Halo Wars 2) as well as the Spartan series, Fireteam Raven, and Outpost Discovery, not to mention all the books as well.
There’s a lot to talk about (constructively) over a long period of time.

I feel attacked.
Didn’t realise it had been this long. Believe I dropped sometime around the founding of the site, I’m barely Spartan - Iron, 6428 down, need 11117 so got 4689 to go.
Either way that’s taken me a long time to get closer to 1/3 left. I’d guess a few more years before reaching max rank for me. Sure they’ll be plenty to talk about when Infinite comes out. Basically getting to max rank in the forums probably overall take the length of a decade. Seems I joined around 2011 when I became aware of the sites existence, it kind of makes me realise the site is going to be roughly 10 years old next year.
I once had over 10k posts in a forum for a game called Combat Arms, but I guarantee you that the majority of those posts were in sanctioned spam threads, and troll posts and threads. Now that I’m older and more mature, I don’t really care as much about post count.

Me either. I don’ play xbox live but i have a microsoft acc which i made into this just to post. It’s a great way to engage in the community.
It would indeed take years, but as others have stated it shouldn’t be just about the rank.
I don’t really see it as over the top as I don’t really see much point in ranks on this site anyway as they don’t unlock anything particularly fine. after reaching Marine rank it’s pretty much the same old as that unlocks the essentials for general forum activity.
And I don’t mean anything mocking by same old statement as Im referring to the rank unlocks rather than anything else.

You pretty much get more avatars and you also get a signature option when you reach Spartan.
Just enjoy the forums is cool to be part of this community
All it takes is time. But contribute to discussions you want and you’ll just naturally get there.
