Just curios how much time does it take to get to ODST rank on average, or for that matter does anyone have a formula to calculate the amount of time needed for each particular rank on Halo Waypoint. Thank You.
Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to determine how long it takes to reach a certain rank as each individual on the site goes about their own business at their own pace.
There are cases were People reached Spartan after a year. But it took me a year to get ODST.
Forum rank isn’t based on time, it’s based on the number of posts you make. So there can’t really be a formula to calculate how long it takes to rank up. It kind of depends on how active this place is.
I guess it really depends on your posting frequency. The ODST ranks start at 1500 posts, so with my average yearly post frequency of around 1000 posts per year, it would take me about one and a half years to reach ODST from scratch. On the other hand, there have been people who just make a ton of posts and have reached the rank in a matter of months. So, it all really depends on how frequently you post.
Because the ranks are post count based, I’d say don’t worry about it. Post at your own pace and have fun.

Is there a way to tell how many posts I’ve posted per year?

You will have to do the math yourself. How long you have been posting, and check you profile and you will see how many posts you have made so far.
One thing I’ll comment on, is post quality, not quantity. We don’t need a bunch of meaningless drivel spam here.

Quoting for emphasis. Rank on Waypoint doesn’t matter other than to let you use a few more avatars. I remember and respect people more from the posts they make rather than the rank they are. As mentioned above, just posts on discussions you feel like adding to and have a bit of fun. The more you ignore your rank, the faster you find you will rank up.
I know it was easier to boost your post count when the off-topic thread was around, but as others have said you should worry more about post quality than quantity. I have over 20,000 posts, but that’s been accumulated over the span of well over 7 years.

What’s your number at these days anyways?

23,736 with this post now. Still think you’ve got me beat.

Comes with the territory of being a moderator though I’d imagine.

Yeah, that’s (part of) why it kept getting taken away. It’s too bad, too; it was nice to have a place to talk about non-Halo things.

It took me some as I didn’t post to much at the beginning

it was a nice place to go and chat.
You should enjoy your “recruit” status as much as possible (well, except for the post limit per day). I think the longer you post on the forums, and the more posts you make, the higher the chance to accidentally say the wrong thing or to make someone angry. (T_T )
But as a recruit, you’re kind of given a free pass on quite a few things, especially when it comes to the lore etc. so it’s a little more fun to be on the forums.

Crazy Waypoint has been going for 7 years now? Time goes so fast. I made my first post here in 2012, which I guess means it’s been 5 years. Wow!

As others have said people move at different paces. I’m guessing I’m a bit slower than the average, and I have 3.3k posts over 5 years. Nothing wrong with mostly lurking and just enjoying yourself on the site.
I find that I love to welcome new members to the Waypoint community (roll call). I want the Halo community to grow and stay positive. The community went through some dark times on the forums when Halo 2 and Halo 4 launched.
Enjoy your time here!
I still have 1,547 posts to go before I make Spartan. I just want to have a signature option even if I don’t need one.
I’ve been posting for nearly 2 years and I still haven’t even got past tier 2 ODST so quite a while. That being said I have taken a few breaks, so I’m sure I could have gotten it faster if I was so inclined to do so. From my experience ranking doesn’t seem to matter all that much. There’s a few members of the community that seem to post contently and therefor have a high rank, but knowing that their posts have little subsistence to them makes the rank much less impressive. The community members that I notice putting in actual effort and thought into their posts are the ones that in the long run earn my respect.

I would say this is true about life in general. The more you speak, the more likely it is you’ll say something without thinking first. I have plenty of painfully embarrassing memories of times when I said something stupid that I regret, both online and in real life. It’s just a natural part of joining discussions. No need to worry about it, just make sure to think before saying stuff.

But is this true? I don’t really notice people’s forum rank when I respond to them, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were lots of Recruit Irons who know much more about Halo lore than I do.
