Waypoint Premium, anyone?

As many of you will know, Halo was one of the first games to offer comprehensive stat-tracking, along with file share systems and a lot more. One of the additional things Bungie offered was Bungie Pro; for a fee, a player could get an expanded file share and a rendering service.

More and more games are offering similar services, along with premium services similar to Bungie Pro.

And so, I was wondering how the forums would feel in regards to a “Waypoint Premium” where by paying a monthly/annual fee players would gain several benefits which don’t offer an actual advantage to other players , but merely enhance the experience overall.

Call of Duty ELITE is the most obvious example I can think of. The free section contains the comphrensive stat-tracking elements, clan support, file shares, weapon and map analysis and the like. The “premium” version grants users added clan privildgies outside of gameplay, access to additional competition and challenges, viewing privelidges for two comissioned “CoD TV” shows along with a DLC deal and a larger file share.

Would we want something similar for Halo?

if you’re referring to website “extras” then, no thanks.

however, if you’re referring to an expanded file share (like Bungie Pro), then i’d be curious to see what alternative 343 will come up with because it’s been asked about fairly frequently.

i want a large file share and i dont wanna pay

uh, no. The only reason bungie pro cost money is cause rendering uses a lot of bandwidth/server power(I’m not sure which, maybe it was both), I’m not gana pay for something that i can get for free in halo 3. The only reason why cod elite exists is cause activation is a money grabbing company that could care less about its customers.

did you change your avatar?

Yes, the halo wars one isn’t available currently.

Same Here

I wouldn’t be opposed to having “Waypoint Premium”, however they’d need a mighty big catch before I throw down the cash for it. Enhanced stat tracking and video rendering won’t solely convince me, they’ll need something a lot bigger to draw in people.

Also, with a program like “Waypoint Premium”, you run the risk of alienating some of your population. I think this fact alone is way 343i wouldn’t do something like this.

Pretty much, it has to be worth the money, but a package that people wont miss if they don’t have it. I think ATLAS shows that if they have a tertiary service which doesn’t matter if you have it or not, and it works, then they’ll do it. The issue is making it worthwile but non-essential.

That’s the great dilema. Personally, CoD Elite doesn’t seem like it’s worth the money honestly. Not that I’m a big CoD fan by any means, it just seems like they’re offering a small amount of services in an effort to pool even more money from their audience.

If 343i were to do something like this, they’d have to ensure the following:

  1. It doesn’t seem like Halo version of CoD: Elite,
  2. It has numerous features that really draw people in, however it’s not essential that people have the service,
  3. It’s not too expensive, and preferably a yearly service instead of a monthly,
  4. It doesn’t appear as just a money-grabber buy Microsoft/343i,
  5. It’s worth the price, and
  6. It doesn’t separate the population into the “have’s” and “have nots”.

Good thing we don’t work for 343i, I wouldn’t want to have the job of figuring this out!

Agreed. I think it’s something they want to do or at least would look into doing, but simply getting it to work in reality might be too difficult at the near future, given they’ve got Anniversary to launch, plus they’ve got to continue adjusting Reach, along with Halo 4 developement along with all the other stuff the publishing team has to do.

And that’s not even considering the rather diverse Halo fanbase…

If they released it tomorrow, it would likely just turn into another thing for people to complain about.

Agreed. I can kind of see it being started up alongside Halo 4 though.

The more I think about it, the more I would enjoy it if it was done correctly. Hopefully they will!

It is something they should definately look at.

I couldn’t really imagine what more they could provide that I’d be willing to pay for. They provide some really great services for “free”. I am just very grateful and happy about that.

Bungie Pro is primarily and was originally the expanded fileshare features.

Unless I’m very much mistaken B Pro functions identically in Halo 3 to the Reach version.

About file shares. Id honestly like an ability to upload a video to the file share, and then download it to the computer in say MPEG format. That would be Really Nice! Or if possible a format that is Compatible with Linux, Unix and Windows. And before anyone on here says What about MAC? Guess what as of Fall 2010 MAC uses the Core of Unix so essentially Linux is the Free version of MAC NOW!!! LOL!!!

Anyway, back on topic, I’d like a file share On here that we can download movies that We or anyone else uploads. That would be nice

I am hoping we get a clue about the fileshares when the website gets its next big update.

I was referring to the features the op said should be in waypoint pro which i can currently get for free on halo 3 and reach.
