Is this normal and I’m over reacting or is that just crazy? I have only liked a few comments and posts because i did not feel like commenting.

Permissions start narrow and broaden as you reach higher trust levels.
The daily limit is there to prevent people from spamming likes on everything. It encourages users to put their likes on the comments they feel more strongly about.

You acquire 50 once you hit Member trust level. 10 days or so visited, made a few posts and gotten a few likes and you’re there.
