Waypoint advertising

Am I the only person that has a problem with the fact that there is now non-Halo / non-Waypoint related commercial advertising on the Xbox console version of Waypoint? It’s as though the purity of Halo and Waypoint has been somehow violated in the worst possible way! I cannot believe Microsoft is so cash strapped, that they simply cannot afford to continue to absorb the costs of keeping Waypoint as it has always been; commercial free and pure HALO.

When I realized I had to sit through a 65 second advertisement before being able to view a Waypoint video, that there was no way to skip or stop the advertisement, I became so furious, I immediately exited Waypoint, then deleted it from my console hard drive.

It’s bad enough that Xbox Live requires a membership fee be paid before a gamer is allowed to play any of the Halo multiplayer games or use thes file share features that make Halo what it is today. It’s bad enough that the new Xbox 360 dashboard now has more advertising than it has ever had. But to -Yoink!- Waypoint with that advertising; it’s sacrilege!

I havent seen waypoint ads yet, probably because im british.

But no, i am not happy. The potential revenue this could bring in is surely nothing compared to the annoyance fans will feel. I feel like this must have been forced on 343i by some corporate suit higher up. I know i will probably use console Waypoint a lot less when they start showing up over here. Im a child of the 90s raised on the internet, i dont do straight up 60 second ads. I dont even watch TV anymore because i cant stand it, not even joking. My cable card has expired or something so the decoder doesnt work and IDGAF.

I just watched a halo waypoint video and I had to watch an add? I watch enough -Yoink- adds a day. Good job microsoft, the halo waypoint team, or WHOEVER decided to approve this. I guess you snotty people want a little extra cash. BTW the adds really ruin the tone to halo waypoint. I listen to great music then I see some stupid commercial.Great way to ruin the mood!

I seen nothing wrong with it, that money is going towards the greater good of Halo and other Microsoft projects.

Not really all that bothered. So I have to watch an ad. OMG THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!

I haven’t seen for myself, as I haven’t been on the console Waypoint in a while, but I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled by the idea of third party ads in my Waypointz. Likely, this is something pushed on from marketing management higher up the chain. There’s nothing wrong with diagreeing with this in a heated manner, but keep it civil. No reason to post something you’ll regret in your frustration.
If many enough disagree with this, there might be a possibility they change it. I wouldn’t know, but don’t make a petition, lol. just keep this discussion going, but keep it civil  No use attacking or throwing your anger around when none of us know who’s actually responsible. My guess is [REDACTED], blame [REDACTED]!

Oh noes, they’re coming for meee!

Hell, I’m just gonna say it here and now. Bungie would never have let this happen. The ONLY ads I ever saw from them was their own stuff (games, Map packs, Bnet store)

I can safely say I will be using Console Waypoint A LOT less now. Halo has never needed ad revenue, and it should stay that way.

ya i have had them too. it kinda makes me mad that you cant get away from all the advertising but 343 makes money on letting companys advertise on there stuff. i know they probably don’t want it but it gets them money and more money makes better games so i can learn to cope with it

Thats what i thought. No way anyone inside 343i sat down and though “Hmm I bet halo fans will be delighted and feel the value-add when they see general advertising next time they fire up Waypoint to catch up on Halo news.”

Gotta be the beancounters higher up man.

I play so much xbox in part to get away from the advert overload that TV gives me.

Take heed.

Yeah, man, like, I hear they’ve got this car, that runs on water man! But the Man is keeping it down, so we’ll be reliant on, like, oil and stuff. I’m telling you man, the truth is out there!

Ads have never bothered me either way, it is usually going to something good, if not, I use Adblock to block it on PC.
