So, with the fact that we are getting books released left and right, along with comics, anthology books, and online shows, there is WAY too much Halo related things coming out. Back in '07, we only had 3 games and a few books. It is too hard to catch up to speed these days and I wish they would slow down, especially since you pretty much have to know the history before the next game as was the case with Halo 5.
So is there a way to get a summary of all recently released media? Because between college classes, work, and other books that I am reading, I have no time for this much Halo media. I used to enjoy reading the books, but now it feels like a chore and if I were to try to catch up, it would take years.
You don’t have to read everything. Most of the books is about a side story or the background to get a bigger understanding. However, reading everything isn’t a requirement for knowledge and it shouldn’t be that.
I keep up with Halo Canon’s YouTube Channel (run by Waypoint’s very own Toa Freak). He does summaries of essentially everything Halo. Games, books, comics, the shows, loot crates, news, reviews, character profiles; basically everything lore … anything you can think of. Lore behind the maps, armor descriptions, comparing books to games, yada yada, etc. etc., so forth and so on.
It’s great for catching up if you’re like me and barely have time to play Halo, let alone read it anymore.
There’s also Hidden Xperia, who does a lot of great lore videos and also focuses on why the classic artstyle needs to return by saying “iconic” a lot.
I get where your at, but I don’t think extra outside media is a bad thing. It just needs to exist alongside the games, not influence them. And it’s a good way to scratch the Halo itch in between title releases. Plus I’d take more external media over annually released subpar games like COD any day of the week. If Halo starts following that release model were seriously in trouble!

They don’t need to stop. They just need to slow down. They are releasing so many other media things that the games feel pushed to the side, when this is a video game series first and foremost. The games need to be up front with the extra just adding a little to them like you said. Now it seems the novels have taken primary influence. Release one book a year or something like that.

Its the other media to games ratio. And I know games take a long, long time to make. I don’t want them rushed at all. But it used to be that a few books and a couple of short videos were released before a major game to help it. Now, it seems like if you mention Halo, you would almost think more of the books than anything. I like universe expanding, but this seems overwhelming.
As for Halopedia, the problem there is that there is too many places and nowhere to start. I’m thinking more of a timeline or something that I can have summarized.

I haven’t read all the books yet, and I know there’s something like 20+ comics, but Halo has been around since '02 so that’s a lot of time for the whole of the extra media to be released. It’s definitely a lot to take in. Like MrMartini85 said, Halocanon is a great source for summarizing and understanding the external media and lore. But I do agree. The games should take precedence.

Start right here! Halo Timeline
As I said, it’s a lot to take in, but it organized by date of events. Just take it one at a time and you’ll get through it…eventually!
Good luck!!
Ps. scroll all the way to the bottom to see the timeline laid out!

This really seems like a non-issue. Inevitably you are going to have more outside material than you will games. That hardly seems like a problem when it’s all optional. Nor do I see people thinking of Halo as the books more than the games. Halopedia solves this problem by condensing everything available. Where you start is up to you.

The problem is that it is a game series. It wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the games. That’s like people thinking Lethal Weapon should be about the tv series, because it has more episode than there are movies, even though the movies are far superior and was how Lethal Weapon was originally intended.
You know, you can pick and choose what you want out of Halo. It’s like Star Wars. You don’t have to like everything and you don’t have to buy everything, and you sure as heck don’t have to read everything. I bet most people here who like Star Wars are more than happy to pretend that the prequels don’t exist.
I’m not trying to say that Halo has anything like the prequels, but my point is you can take your fandom as far or as short as you like and still get to enjoy Halo without having to feel like you’re missing anything.
Also, I don’t really buy the whole “you must have read x,y and z books and watched these movies” to understand Halo 5. Halo 5 gives you enough context to understand what is going on. By the time I got to Halo 5 my experience with Halo was playing Halo 1-4, and Spartan Ops (and that is it). Playing the core games are a given for anyone who wants to know the story, but even Spartan Ops could be considered optional. Sure you find out that Halsey is gone, and get an idea of who Jul M’dama is but all of that is quickly explained in Halo 5 via team Osiris’ pre-mission briefing and with their conversations throughout the first level.
Really, the only thing you’re missing out of avoiding Spartan Ops is great characterization for Roland. Halo 5 (if you’re paying attention) has more than enough information to understand what is happening, to whom, and why throughout it’s entire story.

Normally I’d agree. I actually liked Forward Unto Dawn and Nightfall, but plenty of people didn’t. If Peter Jackson or Steven Speilberg had a hand in it like they had planned I’d say go for it, but there’s a -Yoink- load of game to movie adaptions that turned out horrible. I don’t want to see Halo or MC turn out that way! (And the -Yoink- storm they would create by showing his face) plus Steve Downes is ready to move on from Halo so I don’t see him contributing either

Nope, the “problem” is, Halo isn’t just a game anymore. It turned into a franchise long ago.
And this not a bad thing, not at all. As others have pointed out, the EU stuff is mostly optional,
but for die hard fans like me and a steadily growing number of others, it is a great way
to stay in touch with the franchise, the lore, the characters and so on in the times between the games.
I seriously can’t see your problem. if you don’t have the time for that, that’s your issue, not theirs.
but proposing to “slow down” because there’s “too much” is, no offense, simply non sense.
do you think franchises like star wars which started as a movie, star trek which started as a series
or heck even batman which started as a comic would be there when they would’ve “slow down” some time ?
nope, extending the universe with constantly releasing side-media like books, comics & other stuff
is how you build and keep a healty franchise which attracts more than just one category of people.
