So I started playing Halo on Live with Halo 3, and one of the things that I hated was getting in the turret of a Hog, and having the driver flip the hog every 4 seconds or so. After being killed from my hog getting flipped for like the 100th time I finally got fed up and became a designated driver. I practiced a lot, to the point where I can land the hog on its wheels 85-90% of the time, even after an explosion has sent me flying across the stage.
With Halo 3 team slayer the hog was on several maps, however in Reach I don’t think I have played a team slayer match with the hog in it. (Do not have map packs due to lack of money) While they are in BTB the presence of the scorpion tanks usually renders the hogs and my skill useless. My turret guy usually bails at the first sign of a tank, rendering me useless as well.
Do you think that they will bring back team slayer maps with the hog in it in Halo 4 or do you think I have wasted my time?
I think your dedication to the Warthog is admirable. A bit…special? But admirable. Since we’ve seen next to no info on multiplayer vehicle combat, you’re probably gonna have to wait and find out. But hey, at least there are some Specializations for vehicles that you’ll likely enjoy

First off, you have no air control over the warthog in Halo so far, so I doubt you can land it on the wheels 85/90% of the time when it’s mostly luck that factors in.
Secondly, I think the 4v4 slaver is up to 5v5 now, and I’m pretty sure Warthog is in.

Well, one thing I’ve noticed is that the wheel positioning when you land greatly affects whether you can stabilize yourself or not. Get on Reach and play Rocket Hog Race and you’ll see what I mean.
And yes OP I don’t recall seeing any vehicles at all in Reach Team Slayer, only in BTB and Invasion. I would like to see some normal vehicles like Hogs and Ghosts, but I hope they leave Scorpions, aircraft, etc. to BTB.
One of the DLC map packs as the hog on by default. Frankly there should be more maps like this, designed with it in mind too. Which was the problem with Reach, nobody wanted to experiment with different forms of gametypes or new maps that could have this stuff in.
Your only chances are is if they have these maps on by default from the very start. Unless the community shapes up in the following years.
I’m not sure about other maps but I’ve seen gameplay on the map Longbow where the only vehicles were a couple of Ghosts and a Warthog. It was Team Slayer to…

At first that is what I thought, but the position of the wheels affect how you bounce and land and punching the gas or letting off effects how you bounce as well more gas raises the nose of the hog while less lowers it. The mixing of these allows a good amount of control. When I say land on my wheels, I am meaning I end on my wheels without it force ejecting anyone with in the vehicle, not Landing square on my wheels every time I go air born. There is lots of bouncing involved with doing this, but am usually able to land it on its wheels and when possible convert the left over momentum into speed. It took me a long time to realize these things and get good at them.

Don’t let anyone get you down on enjoying the Hog, good drivers are rare. A good gunner/driver combo can 100% be a game changer in Halo 3, in Reach the Hog is more balanced, but slightly under powered, also very top heavy, so it’s harder to take advantage of. You’ll almost never take down a Scorpion at full health, let alone a Scorpion with a gunner.
Keep your hopes up and keep the tires on the ground, I’m sure the Puma return will be glorious.

Yes, scorpions are the bane of my existence. But wraiths are easy enough, just have to drift at the right speed so that we stay in their blind spot. I can utilize their missed shots to give me a speed boost too.

If you’re interested, here’s the youtube video. Plenty of warthog gameplay…one of the Rooster Teeth guys really enjoys driving…
I know what you mean when you say there are a lack of warthogs but I now enjoy using them in BTB. If I can I’ll get in any seat. I’ve now turned it into a game takeing out tanks and wraiths with the warthog, well I mean the people maning the hog. If the driver gets close to the tank and I’m in passenger I jump out sprint at the tank and take it out the good old fashioned way! with a pair of sticks and a rock - that we had to share! - then I’ll get picked up by the warthog again in an amazing fashion!
I love the warthog too, so if you ever feel like taking on some tanks with them… just ask

Wish I had some more passengers like that, it would make the team more deadly. Maybe when I get the monies to renew my Xbox Live.
Yes the Reach 'Hog is controllable at times when most of you feel it is out of control.
As the OP has discovered, driving takes practice to master in Reach. You may not like that it’s not as easy to control as H3, but I have found that H3’s 'Hog is like an F18 Hornet and the Reach 'Hog is like an SU27 Flanker:
The F18 flies like a brick. It’s meant to, it’s super stable and easy to fly. Unfortunately its maneuverability isn’t as high as other multi-role fighters and definitely less than a true superiority fighter.
The SU27 flies like, well if it wasn’t for the electronics, it would barely fly due to being so unstable. This instability, when controlled, allows the SU27 be one of the deadliest dog-fighters of our generation (thrust vector engines help too ;). But the cost for this deadly agility is the need for greater experience and finer control than most any other fighter.
If only Filesharing never went down they way it did all those months ago. I would have saved a few videos of how the 'Hog can be saved from so many awkward positions.
My work schedule is changing to allow me to play much more in a couple weeks so within a month I may have a video or 2 ready to show how controllable the 'Hog in Reach really is.
I love the 'Hog in Reach but I don’t trust many drivers (actually in any vehicle I don’t trust most players, not enough imagination).

Yes and it is because of players think it is out of control that most fail miserably. I recently made the mistake of getting in another players hog and sure enough he flipped it with in seconds allowing an easy kill from the nearby wraith.
Not sure how imagination comes into play with driving? Can you give some examples or more details?

Be my pleasure, don’t think I can garantee a victory every time but damit we can try!
